Anthony ruffled a few feathers after he placed a ‘blasphemous’ picture of a nun smoking a cigarette in the room he was decorating for the competition.

The first episode of the new season of the hit BBC show, fronted by Chatty man Alan, returned on Tuesday with a bang following the Beeb's confirmation that the show will be returning for season five.

The decision to hang the huge ‘offensive’ photo in a building that used to be a convent astounded Judge Michelle Ogundehin.

The magazine editor scolded Anthony and warned him that he was nearly eliminated over the black and white poster, which she  branded as ‘inappropriate.’

Anthony first revealed the photo in the hotel's garden, acknowledging that it “could be a little bit controversial.”

He said: “But it’s totally my design style: it’s bold, it creates an opinion, and it should be good.”

However, when Alan, 47, approached the photograph immediately gasped upon looking at the picture.

Alan cried out: “What is this? Isn’t that sacrilegious? We’re in a convent!”

Anthony accepted the picture was a ‘bit of a risk’ but ultimately stuck to his guns.

Some fans of Interior Design Masters agreed online that the picture was a bit too much, as one wrote on X: “Yikes, bestie.”

Meanwhile, AJ described the picture as "a bit B&M."

Mark then teased: “Obsessed with poor Anthony getting a b*****king for his ‘offensive’ poster when only 20 minutes ago him & Alan were cackling over it in the garden.”

However, other people supported Anthony’s design choice, with Kelli exclaiming: “I like the 'blasphemous' nun!"

When it came down to elimination, Michelle blasted Anthony for failing to grasp the ‘context.’

She raged: “I have to tell you you were one step away from the sofa for the poster that you used on the wardrobe.

“This was a former covent gifted by nuns to the charity; being appropriate and context is everything.”

Anthony took her complaint on board and replied: “Sure, I get that. I’m here to learn week on week”’

Fortunately for the aspiring interior designer, he made it through to the next round, with Sheree becoming the first designer to be sent home.
