Alex, 41, has been a mainstay face on the BBC for more than a decade, but even she cannot believe her luck.

She sat down with Fearne Cotton for her Happy Place podcast, where the TV presenter revealed her strategy for lasting so long on-screen.

"I can't even believe I'm still there, I think I just keep quiet," Alex admitted.

"I just actually go in, do the job, and hope nobody notices that I'm still there."

Former BBC Radio 1 host Fearne couldn't help but praise the star for her live hosting skills.

On the nightly magazine programme, she regularly interviews A-List celebrities on the iconic green sofa.

But Alex then could not help but get reflective, as she admitted that she has no grand desires for any swanky, shiny floor entertainment projects.

Instead, the star admitted that she is exactly where she wants to be in her career.

When speaking about the show, she admitted: "Oh, I just love it,"

"And you know, people ask a lot, 'but what do you want to do?' Like [I say], 'what do you mean?' [But] I'm really happy.

'It was grim' admits Alex Jones as she opens up about husband Charlie's mental heath struggles

"They're like, 'but you know, don't you want to do a big entertainment show?' And I'm like, Well, you know, all new projects are exciting and a new challenge.

"But actually, it would be really remiss of anybody, I think, to overlook the bread and butter."

Alex recently worked on a fresh documentary for the BBC, titled 'Alex Jones: Fertility & Me'.

She explored the issues that some families had trying to conceive, and she also looked at the pioneering science to help them.

The One Show hosts past and present

The One Show has had a number of presenters since it launched in 2006 - but who are they?

Current

  • Alex Jones - Alex is the longest-severing current host of The One Show as she's been a regular fixture on the green sofa since 2011.
  • Jermaine Jenas - Former professional footballer-turned-pundit and presenter Jemaine joined the cast of the BBC chat show in 2021.
  • Ronan Keating - After stints of X-Factor and The Voice: Australia, Boyzone star Ronan swapped singing for chatting, also joining The One Show in 2021.
  • Roman Kemp - Roman initially singed on to be a guest presenter on The One Show in 2022 but made the move permanent the following year. This brought his time on Capital Breakfast to an end.
  • Lauren Laverne - DJ, singer and Desert Island Discs host Lauren became a regular host on the BBC chat show at the same time as Roman.

Guest

The One Show also has a number of relief and guest presenters. They are:

  • Retired gymnast Gabby Logan (2009–2010, 2013—present)
  • Newsround presenter Ore Oduba (2015—present)
  • Presenter and X-Factor star Rylan Clark (2019—present)
  • Former professional footballer and Strictly star Alex Scott (2019—present)

Past

But instead of wanting to do even more, Alex looks at the extra projects as a sort of bonus around her work on The One Show.

She explained: "And if you don't put your heart and soul like you do into this, nothing works. All the extra bits are really fun and exciting.

"And it was lovely to do like the fertility doc I did, you know, side by side, it's lovely to have that running alongside it.

"But actually, for me, longevity is key, and I want to be there. Being the main breadwinner, I want to be able to provide security for the children."

It would be really remiss of anybody to overlook the bread and butter.

She added: "I love the job. Get into brilliant people, yeah, some nightmares, bust mostly lovely people.

And I just really enjoy it. I still feel really happy to go in every day, and I think that's not to be overlooked."

This comes as Alex has enjoyed some time off from the magazine programme, due to the Olympics.
