MIRANDA Hart today revealed the shame she has felt over gaining weight.

The much-loved actress, 51, also sparked concern, as she hinted at a mystery illness.

It came after the actress, who has also starred in Hollywood movies, posted her latest video.

Promoting her new book, Miranda wrote: "I have found it incredibly hard not to feel shame from gaining weight over the last three years.

"Not because of striving for an aesthetic ideal but because it doesn’t represent me and who I naturally am.

She went on: "But life happens. Illness happens.

"And it’s a great way to keep focusing on the greatest healer - self-compassion.

"If I lose it or not I know I am loved. Peace out."

Miranda's fans immediately rushed to wish her well, with one writing: "We love you ☺️ you’re amazing!"

While another commented: "I love you so much."

This one said: "I’ve fought it all my life. I am now less concerned about looks and more conscious of health. So check blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure often."

Miranda is best known for her beloved self-titled sitcom that ran on the BBC from 2009.

The much-loved show told the story of its awkward star, who was always getting herself in funny situations, while working in a joke shop with her best friend Stevie - played by Strictly star Sarah Hadland.

The series made stars out of its cast and fans were in uproar when it came to an end for good in 2015.

Miranda is also well known for playing the adorable Chummy in Call the Midwife, as well as dipping her toe in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, this week Miranda's sitcom co-star Sarah Hadland was announced as one of the celeb's taking part in this week's Strictly.

Speaking about being on Strictly, she said: "I'm doing it finally, every year she says, 'do you think you'll do it this year? And now I can say yes I will. Massive morning for my mum."

Before adding: I'm just happy to be covered in glue and rolled in glitter and tan."

Miranda Hart's rise to fame

Following her theatrical training, Miranda began performing stand-up comedy.

Her first major show was in Edinburgh in 2004, before she landed a role in Not Going Out.

Even though Hart only had minor parts in the sitcom, she impressed so much she began picking up more acting credits.

She is best-known for her self-penned and semi-autobiographic programme Miranda, which began airing in 2009.

The show was so successful that she gained two nominations for the British Academy Television Awards in 2010 and won Best New British TV Comedy at the British Comedy Awards.

Miranda's other noteworthy acting credits include Call The Midwife and Paul Feig's film Spy.
