A source explained: “After Louis and Kate Middleton’s ‘Uncle Gary’ Goldsmith were booked, the cast was skewed a little in terms of age. So Paul was dropped.

“It’s early days as the Big Brother team is still busy with October’s ‘civilian series’ but Paul’s name is in the mix for the celeb version in March.”

Louis, 72, proved to be a key signing — sharing with housemate Sharon Osbourne a series of controversial stories about showbiz friends.

The pair also slated their former X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

Paul — whose real surname is Elliott — was best known with Barry for their children’s programme ChuckleVision, which aired for 22 years from 1987.

Barry died from bone cancer at 73 in 2018.

At the time, Paul said: “I’ve not just lost my brother, I’ve lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend.”

Since then Paul, 76, has taken up a few reality TV bookings including Celebrity MasterChef and The Real Marigold Hotel.

He recently hinted spoke to Johnny Seifert on Secure the Insecure podcast that he had been in discussion with Celebrity Big Brother’s bosses at ITV.

He said: “They decided against it for some reason, but I’m still hoping for next year.

“You know, I do like these types of shows. Barry and I won the first Celebrity Coach Trip. We were on that, I think, 2012, something like that, we did it. And we won that.

“That was real good fun. Really enjoyed that. So any of these kinds of shows, yeah, I love them.”
