BBC Breakfast fans delighted as fan-favourite returns to screens a year on from final appearance in a brand new role
The former Northern Ireland correspondent is now based on Los Angeles
BBC Breakfast fans were delighted to see fan-favourite presenter Emma Vardy back on the programme earlier this week.
Emma, 43, became a regular fixture on the Beeb’s red sofa last summer as she filled in for Nina Warhurst as the programme’s business expert, alongside working as the BBC’s Northern Ireland corespondent.

However, she then left to take maternity leave for her baby son, Jago Fionn. And while on leave, Emma announced a huge career move, revealing that she and her family would be moving overseas so she could take on an exciting new role as the BBC’s L.A. correspondent.
Sharing the news on X, formerly Twitter, at the time, Emma said: “We’ve certainly had our hands (and hearts) full lately, now there’s a big adventure ahead for my wee family. After an incredible 5 years in Northern Ireland, Jago Fionn @mr_plusone and I are off to actual Hollywood!”
“I’ve absolutely loved my time in Northern Ireland, and it will always have a very special place in my heart. Will treasure our final weeks before we say goodbye NI,” she added.
When Emma returned from maternity leave several months ago, her new role kept her busy in the States and she hadn’t yet done a segment for her old show, BBC Breakfast.

However, that changed this week when Emma dialled into the morning show to report on some big U.S. news; the upcoming general election.
During Monday morning’s show, Emma reported on all things politics.
The presenter is clear over the moon about her role, and also took to X to share some behind-the-scenes goings on from her day.
“We’re all scrubbed up in Chicago where Kamala Harris gets her star turn at the Democratic Convention,” Emma wrote on the platform, before revealing that her days are not always so glamorous.

“(Tho hrs earlier I was covered in mud at a swing state demolition derby!!),” she revealed. (sic)
Promoting her appearance on BBC Breakfast, she added: “Watch @BBCBreakfast for the drama of the US Presidential race & some wreckage of a brutal clash!!”

BBC fans were thrilled by Emma’s return and quickly flooded her comments with messages of support.
“Excellent, keep up your great work!” one fan wrote.
Another praised: “Looking good, Emma!”
"Thanks for the excellent reporting!" added a third fan.
