Discussing the schedule change, one person moaned: “So they can put it on the ITV player early during the Olympics, but not the paralympics or because of the England game. Sort it out @ITV.”

A second said: “Gonna miss Emmerdale tonight if it's not on.”

While a third added: “Means both soaps once again  fall behind - same occurred during euros.”

Last night on Emmerdale one of the “show’s most iconic villains” Emma Barton made a shock return to the soap.

Emma (Gillian Kearney) had a long-running feud with Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb), which ended with the villain’s death in 2017.

Emma fell from the viaduct after accidentally killing her son Finn and confessing to Moira that she had murdered James during another explosive barn fire.

And it seems her return is set to be just as explosive as the episode ended with a huge fire in the barn – but fans will have to wait to find out if Ruby survives.

But it’s not just Emmerdale that is having a schedule shake up this week.

Tomorrow , the National Television Awards will be broadcast live from London's O2 Arena.

Joel Dommett will take to the stage at the star-studded awards ceremony which celebrates the best of British TV.

Emmerdale fans furious as beloved character wasted by soap bosses

The stars will take their seats in the auditorium as the show begins at 8pm and it will carry on until at least 10:35pm.

However, this means that Coronation Street has been pulled from the schedule to make room.

But an episode of Emmerdale will air on Wednesday before the 2024 NTA's.

Fans were furious over the summer as the soaps were moved around because of the Euros  - leaving viewers baffled about when what was on.

Moira Barton's biggest Emmerdale storylines

Played by Natalie J. Robb, Moira has become one of Emmerdale's most prominent characters since her debut in 2009.

AFFAIR WITH CAIN DINGLE

In October 2011, Moira began an affair with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), whom she had previously loathed.

At the time, she was married to first husband and childhood sweetheart John (James Thornton).

JOHN'S DEATH

In the characters' backstory, John and Moira had been married since 1990. They shared three children: Adam, Hannah (now Matty) and Holly.

While John struggled to forgive Moira's infidelity, he also realised he couldn't live without her.

Ultimately, the character of John was written out by having a car accident and fatal cardiac arrest.

Afterwards, Moira and Cain began a relationship and later married.

ADAM'S PATERNITY

It transpired that Cain was not the first man that Moira had an affair with.

She previously slept with John's brother James (Bill Ward) - with the revelation that he is her son Adam's biological father.

MURDER OF EMMA BARTON

James' estranged wife Emma (Gillian Kearney) was introduced as a soap villain, reuniting with her clan after two decades.

In October 2017, Emma was killed off in a who-dunnit storyline after being pushed off a viaduct.

She reappeared one last time in December 2017 for a flashback, where her killer was revealed to be archenemy Moira.
