Boogying birthday bears

Simon Cowell hires bizarre BGT bear act for his son’s birthday party …whilst unimpressed Alesha buzzes them

He gave the dancing polar bears a standing ovation before booking them for Eric's third birthday party

ACTS that enter Britain's Got Talent all want the chance to perform at The Royal Variety.

However, Simon Cowell offered dancing act Vadik & The Bear a different stage after their performance in Tuesday's semi-final - his son's upcoming birthday party

Vadik & The Bear's first audition saw break-dancing mime artist Vadik perform alongside a giant polar bear.

As is often the case, the Belarus native felt the need to up his game for his performance in the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals, so on Tuesday night's show he danced alongside not one, but six furry white bears and a penguin.

Opinion on the novel act was split both in the studio and on viewers' sofas.

Judge Alesha Dixon slammed down on her big red buzzer within the first minute of the act, before the only human on stage had even had a chance to start dancing.

However, music mogul Simon was beaming throughout, and gave Vadik & The Bear a standing ovation and rapturous applause for their moves.

In fact, he was so impressed by the boogying bears that he booked them for his son's birthday party in front of the entire nation.

Still grinning away, he said: "In eight months time Eric's going to have a third birthday party - you are hired."

In awe of Vadik's ability to dance with the animals, he asked: "Incredible...how do you train them to do that?! There are six of them!"

"I think it's my favourite act of the series so far.

"There's no other show on earth where six real polar bears are dancing to Ice Ice Baby."

The strange act split the opinion of the panel - Simon loved it but Alesha hated it

However, less-impressed David Walliams quickly quipped: "There's probably a reason why no other show has this!"

The comedian then told his fellow judge that he'd obviously "completely lost the plot."

Meanwhile Alesha wondered if she had become the mean Simon Cowell of the panel, saying: "One [bear] was a nightmare, this was a real nightmare ...his favourite act, my least favourite act ever."

Amanda Holden had the final word, and made it a positive one, saying: "For me I loved it, it was like a John Lewis advert on acid."

On Twitter, avid BGT viewers were as divided as the judges.
Many were with Alesha, with one writing: "Alesha is the only 1 making sense that bear act noooooooo #BGT."

Another agreed, Tweeting: "@AleshaOfficial being the only sane person right now #bgt."

"@AleshaOfficial I'm with you on this one! Them polar bears are freaky!! It's such a strange act #BGT," wrote a third.

Some social media users weren't keen on the new, softer Simon.

On wrote: "Simon Cowell what the f*** you don't clap an amazing singer but then stand up and cheer to people dressing up as polar bears and dancing #BGT."

Another commented: "I miss when @SimonCowell used to take his shows a little more seriously when giving criticism #BGT @BGT."

However, many loved the idea of the act performing at young Eric's birthday bash.

One Twitter user wrote: "I want an invite to Eric's 3rd birthday party #BGT #PolarBearsToWin."

"Love @SimonCowell getting excited over dancing animals," commented another.

A third Tweeter wondered: "Simon likes it??? Maybe becoming a dad has mellowed him #BGT."
