SAFETY bosses warned that a popular bathroom product could cause a "concussion" as they pulled it from the shelves in a major recall today.

The CCPC said that the bath screens, which were sold to around 68 customers in the Republic of Ireland, present a safety issue.

The risk presented by the product is injuries.

A CCPC spokesperson explained: "The glue bonding fails, leading to bath screen detaching from mounting rail.

"This leads to the glass falling on a consumer and could result in a concussion."

The product was manufactured during February 2023.

And the products were on sale in B&Q stores between March 2023 and November 2023.

The brand that has been pulled from the shelves are Cooke & Lewis and GoodHome and the models are C241-P, C240-P, E248-P and C-243P.

The barcodes are 3663602769637, 3663602769620, 3663602769675 and 3663602769651. The batch number affected is 02.2023.

The CCPC added: "There are approximately 68 affected products in the Republic of Ireland."

People who may have purchases one of the above models have been urged to "stop using it immediately".

Consumers affected can contact B&Q and avail of a free replacement where required.

A B&Q spokesperson said: "If you have purchased one of these models during the time period above, please stop using it immediately and contact B&Q on the below helpline number for advice with checking the batch code and getting a free replacement Bath screen where required.

"If customers have any further queries please contact the B&Q helpline at 1800 946 327 (Monday to Friday 8.30am–8pm, Saturday 9am–5pm and Sunday 10am–4pm)."

The recall comes just days after shoppers were issued an urgent warning over the "possible presence of plastic and metal pieces" in a popular chocolate treat.

Food recall

Baches of Magnum Classic Ice Cream Sticks have been pulled from the shelves in a separate recall alert due to health fears.

The product is understood to have been sold in a number of stores across the country, including Dunnes Stores who have advised customers not to eat any of the affected batches.

Food safety bosses have confirmed that the product affected is the three pack size of 100ml Magnum Almond Ice Cream.

The batch codes are L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341 and L3342 with the best before date of December 2025.

Health risk

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: "The above batches of Magnum Almond Ice Cream 3x 100ml multipack are being recalled due to the possible presence of plastic and metal pieces.

"Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. 

"Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches."

Dunnes Stores bosses confirmed that customers who return the product to their store will receive a full refund.

They said: "Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required."

Dunnes chiefs added: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
