AN urgent recall warning is in place for a cabinet sold by a popular DIY store over "possible amputation" fears.

The Cooke & Lewis Lesina Mirrored Cabinets that was sold by B & Q over the past four years has been recalled by safety bosses.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued the recall warning for hundreds of Irish customers.

They said: "The risk associated with the product is injuries.

"The bonding of the mirror glass to the door panel may fail causing the mirror to detach and fall resulting in glass shards.

"This can cause injuries including cuts, lacerations and possible amputation."

The brand is Cooke & Lewis and the model name is Lesina.

The barcode is 5397007165494.

The product was on sale between January 2020 and February 2024.

It is estimated that 466 products were sold over this time.

Those who own the product are advised to remove the Cooke & Lewis Lesina white mirrored cabinet from the wall.

You can then return the product to the store for a full refund.

Issuing their own recall warning B & Q said: "Potential safety issue has been identified in relation to recent production of the below product.

"In some cases, the bonding of the glass to the door panel may fail, leading to the mirror falling and potentially injuring bystanders.

"If you have purchased one of these models during the time period above, please stop using it immediately and remove from the wall with care as per the B&Q product removal guide."

They added: "Return the cabinet to your local B&Q store for a full refund."

Removing the product safely

B&Q's product removal guide details how to safely remove the cabinet

  • Secure the mirror to each door using suitable adhesive tape. Wrap around the top and bottom of each door.
  • Using an appropriate screwdriver remove each door by loosening the hinges away from the cabinet
  • Store the mirror doors in a safe place
  • With care and support of another person if required remove the securing screws from the back panel of the cabinet taking care to support the cabinet whilst doing so.
  • Remove the cabinet from the wall.

The recall comes as a baby product has been recalled over choking fears.

Matchstick Monkey have recalled two of their soother clip products that were sold on their website and the Amazon website as well as in Boots stores.

The concern is due to small and detachable parts that pose a choking hazard to young children.

The Soother Clip Duo Pack from Matchstick Monkey is one of the recalled products.

The model number is MM-DSC-005, the batch number is V2207 and the barcode is 5060679072376.

This product was sold online on the Matchstick Monkey website and on Amazon.

A second product, the Flat Face Teether & Soother Clip has also been recalled.

This product was also sold online on the Matchstick Monkey website and on Amazon.

It was also sold instore in Boots.

The model number of the product is MM-SC-FLT-001.

The batch numbers are V2107, V2210, V2212 and the barcode is 5060679072093.

Parents are advised to keep the product out of reach of children and make contact with where they originally purchased the product for a refund.
