GARDAI have appealed for witnesses after a woman in her 50s was seriously injured in a crash in Louth.

The two vehicle collision between a car and lorry occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road at around 12.10pm today.

The woman, who was the driver of the car, was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with serious injuries.

The male driver of the lorry aged in his 40s was also brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for medical examination.

No other injuries have been reported as a result of the collision.

The road is now closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

They said: "Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry, which occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth today, Tuesday 9th July 2024, at approximately 12.10pm.

"Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward."

The continued: "Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were traveling on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth, today, Tuesday 9th July 2024, between 11.30am and 12.30pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
