MET Eireann has given a weather update ahead of the weekend as dry conditions mixed with scattered showers and clear spells are expected. 

And it looks like the bad weather is not coming to an end as an onslaught of rain is set to return next week. 

The weekend will then be a story of sunny spells and scattered showers, and temperatures will stay much the same in the mid- to high teens

According to Met Eireann’s Rebecca Cantwell, the weekend is expected to have “generally more settled conditions”, with light winds mixed with sunshine and showers.

It will be a very cloudy day to start, though it will turn cloudier through the day, with isolated showers possible. 

Temperatures will range from 16C or 17C in a light to moderate northerly breeze.

Rebecca said: “It will be dry for many, but scattered showers will slowly spread from the northwest through the morning and afternoon.

“Then some patchy drizzle pushes to the northwest and coast later.” 

Tonight, the weather will be mainly dry, apart from a few patches of drizzle.

And lowest temperatures of 12C or 13C in light variable winds.

The weekend will then be a story of sunny spells and scattered showers, and temperatures will stay much the same in the mid to high teens.

A cloudy start tomorrow with outbreaks of light patchy rain and drizzle.

Temperatures will range from 15C or 16C. 

Saturday night is set to become mainly dry with clear spells.

Showers will become isolated early on in the night before eventually dying out altogether. 

A dry start for many, with sunny spells on Sunday.

Met Eireann bosses have said that scattered showers will develop through the morning and afternoon. 

They added: “Turning cloudier in the south and west later with rain and drizzle moving into the southwest during the evening. 

“Some coastal mist or fog also. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light to moderate southerly or variable winds.”

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move in over Munster early on Sunday night, spreading to parts of Connacht and Leinster overnight. 

Lows of 10C to 13C in a light easterly breeze.

Met Eireann bosses have added that current indications suggest it will be “largely unsettled next week” with further showers and rain.

Cloudy on Monday with showery outbreaks of rain spreading across the country from the south, possibly turning heavy and thundery at times. 

Highs of 16C to 19C in light easterly veering westerly or variable breezes.

Showers will move into Atlantic coastal counties later on Monday night night.

Lows of 10C to 13C in a light westerly breeze.

On Tuesday, we will likely see scattered showers moving in from the west and spreading across the country. 

After a mostly cloudy start, some sunny spells will develop throughout the day.

Highs of 15C to 18C in a light to moderate west to southwest wind.
