Alan Kelly reveals eleven front-bench politicians who will lead Labour’s opposition in Dail and Seanad

NEW Labour Party leader Alan Kelly today revealed his revamped starting eleven of front bench politicians that will hold the government to account from the opposition benches.

The Tipperary TD won the top job in the party earlier this year after long time leader Brendan Howlin stepped down following a poor general election performance.

The new leader today put his stamp on the party after selecting the new Labour front bench which includes six TDs and five senators.

Deputy Kelly will be the party’s spokesperson on health while former leader Howlin will take the lead on foreign affairs, Brexit and justice issues.

Dublin TD Aodhan O’Riordain, who lost to Kelly in the leadership battle, will be the party’s education, enterprise and trade spokesman while Louth’s Ged Nash will lead on finance.

Dublin Fingal TD Duncan Smith takes up the position as the party whip and will also be the Labour’s spokesman on climate action, communications and transport.

Long time Labour member Sean Sherlock will be the parliamentary party chair and spokesperson for social protection, rural development and agriculture.

Ivana Bacik will lead the party in the Seanad and focus on issues relating to children while Senator Rebecca Moynihan will lead on housing.

Senator Annie Hoey will focus on higher education, Mark Wall will take on defence, tourism and sport and Marie Sherlock will lead on employment, media and arts.
