Eamon Ryan’s mother laid to rest today following sudden and tragic death while on holiday

GREEN Party leader Eamon Ryan carried the coffin of his mum today after she died “suddenly” after an accident while on holiday.

Tragic Mary Ryan was airlifted to Galway University Hospital from Inishbofin Island on Tuesday and died in the early hours of Wednesday.

A Green Party spokesman said: "Mary Ryan, mother of John, Eamon, Robert and Marion died suddenly in the early hours [of Wednesday] at University Hospital Galway.

"Minister Eamon Ryan wants to thank the Air Ambulance Service as well as staff at University Hospital Galway for their care."

Her family stated that while she died unexpectedly, it was a peaceful death.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Tanaiste Leo Varadkar attended her funeral today to support Transport and Environment Minister Ryan.

Her heartbroken family said Mary will be “loved forever” by her relatives, neighbours and friends.

Tributes have poured in online as family, friends and colleagues send their condolences to Eamon and family.

Aindrias Moynihan TD said: "My deepest sympathy to the Ryan family. May Mary rest in peace."

Another comment said: "On behalf of Minister Ryan's officials and colleagues here at the Department of Transport, I wish to offer our deepest sympathies to you and to the extended Ryan and Cahill families on the passing of Mrs. Ryan.

"We are all thinking of you at this difficult time. May Mrs. Ryan rest in peace."

Minister of Health Stephen Donnelly said: "Eamon, John, Robert and Marion, please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your mum Mary.

"Can I extend my condolences to all of Mary’s family and friends."

Mary was laid to rest today at St Fintan’s Cemetery in Sutton, Dublin, after mass at St Joseph’s Church in Glasthule.
