RISING Kerry star Cillian Burke is not on the verge of an AFL move — but is set to take time out to travel.

The Milltown/Castlemaine clubman, 22, plans to take a break from inter-county football to go to Australia in September, SunSport understands.

A pacey attacker, Burke had a storming debut season for the Kingdom.

After a league bow against Derry, he made his first Championship start in the Munster semi-final win over Cork and featured in all seven games for Jack O’Connor’s men this summer.

Burke made a significant impact off the bench in Kerry’s dogged All-Ireland quarter-final win over Derry.

He followed that up with an impressive cameo in their semi-final extra-time loss to Armagh last Saturday, scoring a point.

And he had been linked with an AFL move to the Geelong Cats.

But instead he is understood to have told boss Jack O’Connor that he plans to travel when his Kerry club championship campaign is over.

The Cats snapped up Dingle star Mark O’Connor in 2017 before Mayo’s Oisín Mullin joined him there in November 2022.

Kerry panellist Stefan Okunbor was on their books for three years until 2021.

Okunbor did not feature for his county this summer due to an ongoing groin injury.

But their advances for Burke look to have failed.

It is hoped the forward will return for the 2025 Championship as Kerry look to bounce back from their disappointing loss to the Orchard.
