2019 Open champ Lowry has had the best season of his career to date on the PGA Tour's points ladder.

World number 29 Lowry has never made the Tour Championship at East Lake but it more or less guaranteed his place in the 30-man field for the season finale in two weeks time.

He finished 10th on the regular season Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 and earned an sensational $2 million bonus ahead of the playoffs that get underway today at TPC Southwind.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs consist of three tournaments in successive weeks throughout August.

It all starts with the FedEx St Jude Championship (15-18), then the BMW Championship (22-25), and followed by Tour Championship at East Lake (Aug 29-Sep 1).

Offaly ace Lowry missed the cut at last week's Wyndham Championship but no player in the field did enough to catch him in tenth position on the points table.

The Clara star pockets a cool $2 million for his efforts during the 2024 campaign, while Holywood hotshot McIlroy bagged a whopping $4.8 million for finishing third.

And despite missing the cut at last week's event, the Irishman is not worried.

Lowry says his games feels really good ahead of the playoffs, and he feels he can improve on his tenth place standing heading into the first event of the three tournament series.

Speaking to SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio: "It's the best position I've ever been to the FedEx Cup Playoffs. I'm excited for the next few weeks, hopefully give it a run.

"My game feels in decent shape. It's nice to be up there and not having to worry about getting to East Lake [Tour Championship] - you know that's pretty much guaranteed.

"Everything is about trying to kind of move forward from here."

The two-time Olympian added that he enjoys the TPC Southwind track, and feels he can make a charge for the huge purse in the first week of the playoffs.
