ICONIC Irish football manager Jim McLaughlin has died at the age of 83.

The Derry-born former player and manager was a well-known figure in Irish football.

His playing career began in the late 1950s, and he later transitioned into management, where he made a significant impact.

McLaughlin had notable success with clubs like Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Derry City and Shelbourne where he won multiple League of Ireland titles and domestic cups.

He won eight Premier Division titles and six FAI Cups during his time as manager through from the 1970s to the early 90s.

The Derryman won three league title with Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers before he guided Derry City and Shelbourne to sole league Triumphs his latter years as manager.

His managerial career spanned several decades, during which he established himself as one of the most successful and respected figures in Irish football history.

He was LOI Manager of the Year in 1986 and in February 2002, he also was awarded with the FAI Special Merit Award in recognition of his achievements and dedication within the domestic game.

He was the Shamrock Rovers Hall of Fame recipient and in 2005 before being inducted into the Shamrock Rovers 'Legends'.

McLaughlin was born on December 22, 1940, in Derry, Northern Ireland, and went on to play in late 1950s for various English and Welsh clubs that included Sunderland, Shrewsbury Town, and Swansea City.

During his playing career, he won the Welsh Cup with Swansea City in 1966.
