Man Utd star Luke Shaw at centre of club vs country row as Peter Schmeichel blasts ‘WE pay you’ after latest injury

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Peter Schmeichel has urged Luke Shaw to prioritise club over country after his latest injury setback.
The England left-back, 29, has not played for the Red Devils since February as he missed the final three months of last season due to a muscle problem.

Gareth Southgate still selected him for the Euros in the hope he would be available at some stage during the tournament.
Shaw came off the bench in England's quarter-final and semi-final matches, before he started the final against Spain.
But he then missed Man Utd's Community Shield defeat to Manchester City due to more fitness issues.
Problems with his calf, heel and shin are set to keep him sidelined until at least next month.

This has enraged five-time Premier League winner Schmeichel, 60, who has questioned Shaw's ability to play for England but not Man Utd.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: "Luke Shaw last played [for Utd] in February and yet he still went to the Euros.
"I think he played a little bit in the quarter final, and then some of the semi-final and then he played the final. Now, he's injured again.
"He's so important. He's got experience and he's a top class left back.

"He's a Manchester United player - we pay him. He should be focusing and prioritising Manchester United and not his country."

Ahead of the game, manager Erik ten Hag spoke about Shaw's fitness.
He said: "He will return in the short term, it doesn’t take long.
"We are looking forward, of course, for Luke Shaw. A very important player for our team so we want to get him back as soon as possible but we can’t force this process."
Shaw has been at Man Utd since 2014, playing 275 games, scoring four goals and assisting 28.
