2019 Open winner Lowry holed out a long iron shot at The American Express earlier this season for eagle before an incredible Albatross at the Farmers Insurance just a week later at Torrey Pines.

He also holed out TWICE on front nine during third round at the $20m PGA Tour Memorial Tournament in June.

It was an average round from the Clara star on the greens with the putter but he landed the stunning hole out from a 140-yard fairway bunker shot for a closing eagle two in the first FedEx Playoff event at St Jude Championship in Memphis.

But Lowry will be confident of taking a run at the leaders with the second round 68 and yet another hole-out from outside 100 yards to leave him on a total of -2.

World number 29 Lowry has never made the Tour Championship at East Lake but it more or less guaranteed his place in the 30-man field for the season finale in two weeks time.

He finished 10th on the regular season Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 and earned an sensational $2 million bonus ahead of the playoffs that get underway today at TPC Southwind.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs consist of three tournaments in successive weeks throughout August.

Offaly ace Lowry missed the cut at last week's Wyndham Championship but no player in the field did enough to catch him in tenth position on the points table.

The Clara star pocketed the cool $2 million for his efforts during the 2024 campaign, while Holywood hotshot McIlroy bagged a whopping $4.8 million for finishing third.

McIlroy carded a poor round of 73 to sit on a total of one over par for his tournament with Denny McCarthy leading the way one eleven-under-par.

Seamus Power is best of the Irish challenge on three under par.
