MOVE AGAIN?

Jack Byrne being pursued by Charlotte FC with MLS club already having had six-figure bid turned down by Shamrock Rovers

CHARLOTTE FC are expected to make a fresh offer to sign Shamrock Rovers star Jack Byrne over the weekend.

Charlotte are reported to have had a substantial six-figure bid turned down by the Hoops.

But the North Carolina outfit are expected to make an improved offer ahead of the MLS transfer window closing on Monday.

The Hoops are reluctant to lose him but may opt to do business if the player indicates that he wishes to go.

With the strongest squad in the country, Stephen Bradley may feel that he has enough talent in his disposal to secure a fourth league title in a row even without Byrne.

But the loss of a star turn would undoubtedly be a blow, particularly ahead of their European campaign.

Charlotte’s Italian head coach Christian Lattanzio worked with Byrne in Manchester City’s academy.

Charlotte previously tried to sign the Ireland international when he left APOEL Nicosia at the end of 2021 but he opted to return to Tallaght for a second stint.

The 26-year-old has won league titles with Rovers either side of his frustrating stint in Cyprus.

But he has remained open-minded about moving abroad again, having also lined out for Dutch side Cambuur, Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Oldham Athletic and Kilmarnock.
