During today's show, Elaine and Martin spoke to RTE news anchor Bryan Dobson.

The well-known broadcaster recently said farewell after 37 years presenting flagship RTE news and current affairs programmes.

During his chat with Elaine and Martin this morning, Bryan spoke about his life since retiring back in May.

After viewing his final clip on RTE, he admitted that he felt more "emotional" watching it now than he did while doing it.

Elaine then asked him: "How are you finding the change of pace since you retired?"

The 64-year-old responded: "Just fine, I think I'm doing okay, it's about, as you said, a little over two months in, so maybe I feel still a bit like I'm on extended leave."

Martin then asked: "You said that part of your retirement plan was sailing, have you done much of it?"

Bryan said: "Yes, I have done a bit of that in the last week or so.

"Myself and a buddy we have a small sailing boat and we had the boat up in Scotland for a few days."

And as Elaine asked him about his future, he admitted: "I'm not saying never again, but I'm definitely taking a little break."

The host also asked Bryan: "Were you surprised at the reaction to your retirement?

"Because there's very few broadcasters in this country that were given the same amount of love and recognition that you've been given.

"We had the likes of Gay Byrne, but you're right up there as well, were you taken back by it?"

The Dublin native replied: "I was a little bit, I hadn't expected the reaction I got and I got a lot of requests for interviews and I was very happy to do that.

"I got a lot of cards, a lot of letters, dozens, lots of messages as well, emails, texts and so on - most of them, nearly all of them were complimentary and wishing me well.

"I was heartened by that and I took that to mean that the people have appreciated what I have done over the years."

'SUPER INTERVIEW'

After the show, Elaine took to her Instagram to speak about the "fabulous" interview.

Alongside a smiling snap of herself and Bryan, she wrote: "Well that was fabulous!

"Chatting to the legend that is ‘Dobbo’ at work this morning. Brian Dobson was always #newsanchor goals for me in my #tv3 days…

"Ah t’was a good day at the office. @martinkingpresenter and @siomhaniruairc weren’t too bad either."

And fans were quick to comment on her post to praise the "super interview".

Aoife said: "Ahh lovely."

Ryan wrote: "I love Dobbo and Sharon Ni Bheolain."

Another added: "Super interview well done to both Elaine you are super as was Dobo."
