Kathryn met up with Christopher Connolly for his series Get Better With Chris where he goes on a 5k with people and interviews them.

On their jog, Chris asked Kathryn what obstacles she has overcome in her life and she spoke about how hard it was for her to "stay positive" on her journey to become pregnant.

The Carlow native explained: "Myself and my husband had a real difficulty with starting a family and it took us three years and a lot of treatment and work.

"That was a really difficult time for us and for me because I like to go out and get something, I like to go after it and when it was happening it was really difficult and challenging to stay positive.

"I like to stay positive and that was difficult. But we got there and we have two of them now."

She jokingly added: "And I couldn't wait to run away from them this morning."

Kathryn said another obstacle in her life is adapting to the changing media landscape and "toxic" social media.

The mum-of-two said: "The first thing that comes to my head is that I've been really lucky. I've been so lucky to work consistently and work with great people.

"But personally, you start at 20 and you're still doing what you did at 45 and the whole media landscape has changed so you kind of worry about what direction you're going to go in and you can get bogged down in that.

"With social media - I love it, love Instagram but where it's gone - it's become so toxic. You've got to have enough resilience to handle the trolls and handle what people think of you.

"I have two girls and I worry for what they're going to be exposed to."

Kathryn opened up on her how she has gotten to the position she's in today.

She said: "By having a lot of good people around me and having friends that don't bulls***. In my industry there is a hell of a lot of bulls*** let me tell you.

"You just have to have confidence in yourself. I'm 45 now and there have been times where I have not been confident.

'FICKLE BUSINESS'

"I think when you have a career on TV - people just see one side of you. It's a fickle business and you just got to work hard.

"I've been working through the age of 14 and as you go on and progress through life, you need to have people who keep you grounded and you need to have people who give it to you straight."

Kathryn worked on the RTE travel show, No Frontiers, from the age of 21 to 31.

The popular presenter explained how the series taught her a valuable life lesson as a woman.

She said: "I kind of grew up on the road, I became a woman as they say. I didn't go to college, I dropped out, and all my education was got through travelling so I always value that. I learnt that there's not one way to live.

'REALLY IMPORTANT'

"You could be in the slums in Brazil hanging out and having the greatest time and be then three weeks later in a five star hotel in Dubai where everyone's miserable.

"Also throughout that time, as a woman you kind of see there's not just one way to be beautiful. In Brazil it's about bums and boobs in Moai it's about how long your neck is and in Mongolia it's about how red your cheeks are.

"So it was really important as a woman growing up to accept ourselves the way we are. Not to say it was always easy - as women we are so hard on ourselves.

"But that taught me a great lesson that how we live here and in the west is not the only way to live."

'BRILLIANT'

Finally, Kathryn gave her fans some life advice saying: "Have confidence and belief in yourself. You are the only you on the planet. You're amazing and appreciate your body and brain."

Kathryn's fans all flooded the comment section with love and praised her for being "inspiring".

Graham wrote: "This is a very good one , I remember Kathryn when she lived in Mount Brown. This one had inspired me to want to be TV presenter hahaha, be seen you on the big screen soon bro."

Marlene said: "Fantastic. Love Kathryn she's so genuine and natural. Love her advice and spirit."

Eleanor commented: "She is just so naturally beautiful and down to earth... really enjoyed listening to her. Well done."

Helen added: "Brilliant Interview!"
