VAL DOING WELL

Val Kilmer covers his face with a surgical mask after his ‘healing’ of throat cancer as he travels through LAX

The 57-year-old former action star has been recovering over the past year from a previous throat cancer diagnosis.

VAL Kilmer kept his face hidden beneath a surgical mask as he arrived at LAX as he continues to overcome his oral cancer diagnosis.

The Top Gun actor, 57, admitted in April last year that he had mouth cancer, after previously publicly denying it, but claimed in a Q+A he had a “healing” that left him cured.

However, fans are still worried for the star’s health after he was pictured in a wheelchair back in November, and donned the mask as a precaution as he joined a connecting flight.

Val has thanked his faith and act of prayer from recovering from the disease, that left the former muscled star appearing frail.

After coming clean on Reddit about the diagnosis, Val returned to talk to fans again a week later and thanked fans for their support, saying he was “grateful for all the prayers and good thoughts from around the world.

In a series of responses, Val added: "Many, many people have been healed by prayer throughout recorded history.

"And many, many people have died by whatever was modern medicine."

He added: "I have seen people turn down love. I have turned it down myself when I was younger. I hope I never turn it down again."

Candidly talking about his devout religious stance and how it helped him through his illness, Val then added: "Sometimes people are surprisingly mean about this sort of talk.

"Maybe they mix it up in their minds with extremists, people screaming with signs in front of Planned Parenthood or something.

"That's not my sense of Christianity. Or most people's, regardless of their religion. Any more than a Muslim identified themselves with the madness of a suicide bomber spreading fear in the name of Allah."

The actor had previously denied he had cancer after Michael Douglas, 72, revealed in a chat with Jonathan Ross last year that Val was “dealing with exactly what I had” and “things didn’t look good for him”.

Four months later Val once again denied he was unwell, but was later seen with a tracheotomy tube in his neck.

Val later revealed that following Michael's announcement, he had sent a letter of apology.

He wrote online: "Michael Douglas wrote me a nice note apologising for suggesting to the press overseas, I ‘wasn’t doing too well …’ and was grateful to hear I am doing well.

“He’s a classy guy."

However, in November last year, he once again sparked concerns after he was forced to cancel a string of tour dates after he slurred his speech during one chat.

Despite battling the illness, Val has appeared to remain in good spirits on his social media sites - including pulling on a Batman mask as he messed around with friends to recreate his famous character.

He has even offered to reprise his classic role of Iceman in Top Gun if they intended to make a sequel.
