ROBERT Carlyle has revealed that he had a TOOTH and a tooth cap removed from the front of his mouth in order to get back into character for the Trainspotting sequel.

The 55-year-old actor, who is reprising his role of hardnut Francis Begbie in the upcoming film T2 Trainspotting, made the revelation to Lorraine Kelly on her daytime TV show.

He explained: "I had a temporary crown in my bottom set of teeth. And because I needed a few months to get it replaced and healed - so with filming commitments I didn't really have time to do that.

"It had been sitting there for about a year and a half, so I thought 'well, this is the moment to do it, let's just take this out for Begbie'.

"But when I took that one out, the other tooth had been lying beside it and was weak, so I thought 'well, might as well take that one out as well!"

He added: "When I saw that it gave...it gives it a little bit of colour, a little bit of detail, and you can imagine he's probably lost that in the prison somewhere."

In the film, Francis - also known as Begbie or Franco to his former friends - starts the film having served 20 years in Edinburgh prison.

However, he has not forgotten Renton, played by Ewan McGregor, who left him high and dry after nicking £16,000 from him at the end of the last movie.

Begbie has become even more of a loose cannon than the last time we saw him, and he comes up with a plan to get back to his family - by any means necessary.

However, Robert has revealed that there is a softer side to the hardnut, and has revealed that he wants a Trainspotting 3 to happen - which will focus on Begbie and will be based on Irvine Welsh's book, The Blade Artist.

Meanwhile, his Trainspotting co-star Ewan McGregor caused a stir on another morning show after refusing to appear alongside Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The star was due to chat about the film with Piers and Susanna Reid but pulled out after the TV host made a series of controversial comments about the Women's March last weekend.

Ewan announced his withdrawal on Twitter, and wrote: "Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise @piersmorgan was host. Won't go on with him after his comments about #WomensMarch."

The ex newspaper man announced on the show: "Ewan McGregor, who was supposed to be our big guest, just tweeted this."

He added: "Because I didn't think the march was a fantastic thing, because I didn't agree with the politics of it, Ewan McGregor who is an actor, who was here to talk about a movie, has decided he can't come and talk about his movie, which I think is a shame.

Catch Lorraine weekdays at 8.30am on ITV1.

T2 Trainspotting is released on UK cinemas on January 27.
