BEV'S BRAVE BATTLE

Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard’s ‘determined to win I’m A Celeb as she vows to recover from agonising hip surgery’

SHE was one of the first famous faces to be lined up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity and now Beverley Callard 'vows to win the show' - despite recovering from painful surgery.

The Corrie actress, who has played Liz McDonald on the soap for 31 years, is struggling to walk after a recent operation on her hip went badly wrong.

The actress’ friends believe she has what it takes to be crowned Queen of the Castle in the ITV show, which starts in November.

But Bev has been left struggling to walk following the surgery in March and the cold, uncomfortable setting could make things even tougher for Bev if doctors give her the green light to take part.

Even though I’m A Celeb is due to relocate to a Welsh castle, it still means she may struggle to do the challenges producers are likely to set.

This has left a big question mark over whether she will be fit enough to join the rest of the famous campmates on the show.

But today her pals says she is still keen to be on the show and one, with one telling The Mirror: “There is still a long way to go before the show starts and Bev is determined to use this time to keep getting better. She is nothing if not a fighter.

“I’m a Celebrity may have switched from New South Wales to cold north Wales but she still hopes to be there.

“It’s been a great target for her as she continues with physio, working hard to get fit for the show in a couple of months is really helping to spur her on.

"She’s so focused, some of her friends are convinced that she will go all the way and win.”

Things went wrong for Bev after she was taken in as a day patient to have keyhole surgery on her hip – which left her in agony and needing a full hip replacement, which took place in July.

Now she is having daily physio and hydrotherapy sessions – and is planning legal action against the original hospital

Meanwhile, a TV insider told The Sun earlier this month: “Beverley was signed up for the show when it was still planned to be in Australia.

“She was so excited to be able to come on board. Obviously, with the surgery, she’s had complications no one could have foreseen.

The actress announced last year that she intended to bow out of Coronation Street after three decades on the cobbles.

Her exit was subtly revealed earlier this month on the show when her soap son, Steve McDonald, mentioned she had moved to Spain.
