I’m A Celeb’s Victoria Derbyshire apologises after insisting she’d break Rule Of Six at Christmas to see parents

VICTORIA Derbyshire has been forced to apologise after revealing she'd break the Rule Of Six to see her parents at Christmas.

The 52-year-old presenter - who is set to appear in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle - previously insisted she was willing to break Covid restrictions to be with her parents during the festive season.

But after experts warned her against flouting rules, the star apologised for her remarks.

Taking to Twitter today, Victoria wrote: "Good morning. I’m starting the day by saying I’m sorry: a few weeks ago the Radio Times asked me (amongst other things) what would potentially happen at Christmas with my own family if the rule of six was still in place...."

She added: "I talked about my mum, her partner & my dad-in-law spending it with us - making seven in our home in a Tier One area (medium).

"It was hypothetical - however I was totally wrong to say it & I’m sorry. We’ll of course continue to follow whatever rules are in place on Dec 25th."

Victoria previously claimed her family knew the risks but would be "sensible" and buy a thermometer gun.

Speaking to Radio Times, she said: "If the rule of six is still in place at Christmas, we're breaking it to have the rule of seven. We just are.

"Joining me, my husband and our two boys will be my mum, her partner and my husband's dad.

"It's fine. We'll do it knowing what the risks are. We're not stupid.

"We're going to be sensible and buy a thermometer gun. But we have to be together at Christmas.

"It feels almost irresponsible saying that, but I don't think we're alone in feeling that way.

"We need to see my elderly mum and my husband's elderly dad. We just do."

Victoria shares two sons, Oliver, 16, and Joe, 13, with her husband Mark.

Last week, the Sun revealed Victoria was the fifth name to be confirmed for this year’s I’m A Celebrity.

The TV star, whose Bafta-winning current affairs show on the BBC was axed in March amid cuts, will join other famous faces including Vernon Kay, AJ Pritchard and Jessica Plummer.

An insider said: "Victoria is always game for a challenge so when she was approached for I’m A Celebrity she jumped at the chance.

"It’s always something she’s wanted to do but because of her family she’s never wanted to fly to Australia and be away from them for so long."
