Is anyone else experiencing higher than normal Sewerage & Water Board bills in the N.O. area?

My last 2 bills were $142 and $156 for this months bill. Our house had 3 adults in it, no pool, no watering of lawn or garden with the exception of some potted plants on the porch and patio and normal showering, clothes washing, etc.

This is about 20+% higher than normal when looking at prior bill averages.

They also frick up billing with normality.

Yeah, trash is included and this is the breakdown:

Ready to serve-Water for 5/8 in. meter--------------------------------$8.69
Water Usage------------------------------------------------------------------$49.97
Safe Drinking Water Fee---------------------------------------------------$1.00
Ready To Serve-Sewer-----------------------------------------------------$24.87
Sewer Volume Charge------------------------------------------------------$46.37

Residential Sanitation Charges (1 unit)---------------------------------$24.00
City Sales Tax------------------------------------------------------------------$1.47

Total Charges----------------------------------------------------------------$156.37

Trash pickup has been reduced from twice a week to once a week ever since 2022 but they are now charging more for less service.

Yeah you’re just paying for mine because my bill has been $47 the last 5 months or so. I’m so screwed when they actually come out and read the meter

They recently put in a new meter that can be read with a scanner. Before that, I would usually get a bill for around $120 for a month or two, then it would dip to around $80-90 every 3rd month or so.

Since the new reader was installed it's always $140+ for the last 3 months.

Guess it's time to call the SWB to see if there is something amiss---------Yeah, I know-----wait for something to be done about it.

They installed a smart meter, so the readings might be correct now whereas in the past they would estimate each bill based on prior bills/usage. I don’t have a smart meter yet, but when they install one I’m sure my bill will be at least double.

Block the water line going into the house. Mark the meter, see if there's a leak between the meter and the house.

There's no leak. The water line is buried in a straight line from the meter to my house and it's no more than about a 20 ft. run. The ground is bone dry and not under any concrete.

I'd know if there was a leak in the line.
