President’s Symposium and White Paper Project

Each year, students from across the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) have the opportunity to shape the future of the University.

As part of the President’s Symposium and White Paper Project, an interdisciplinary group of students (known as President’s Fellows) is selected to participate in a mentored fellowship while researching, developing, and writing recommendations surrounding an issue that impacts the UMB community. UMB students from all disciplines are encouraged to submit an application.

We Recognize Innovation and Discovery

Students receive many benefits from participating in the symposium. They will: meet and interview UMB’s president, deans, and leadership; publish a University-focused white paper; and present their findings and institutional recommendations to the University’s leadership and community. Participants who complete the program are awarded a $2,500 stipend during the 2024-2025 academic year, in recognition of their work and contributions to the institution’s core values.
