All the Standout Beauty Moments at the 2021 Grammys
For all the new protocols tonight at the 2021 Grammy Awards—beamed-in performances and a reimagined red carpet—one thing was unchanging: the dialed-way-up approach to beauty. This, of course, is a group of artists accustomed to filling soaring venues as much with sound as with visual fanfare. Put the likes of Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé together in an awards show, and they know how to serve.
Lizzo posed with her sleek waist-length extensions against a backdrop of California cactus, while her bronzed eye makeup and pearlescent pink nails gleamed in the sun. Phoebe Bridgers slipped into goth glam with near-black lipstick befitting her Thom Browne skeleton. The action-hero poise of sister act Chloe x Halle played out with bantu knots and diaphanous curls (on Chloe Bailey) and a gold headscarf with ’90s brown lips (on Halle Bailey).
There was a hit of old-school polish, too, by way of Best New Artist winner Megan Thee Stallion’s piled-high updo with face-framing tendrils, offset by a generous slip of thigh: savage, sophisticated. Meanwhile, the Haim sisters took their cue from Prada’s spring 2021 show—lank hair, with a crisp stepped cut on the eldest Este—reminding us that the red carpet, real or virtual, is always a runway.
