Every Time Lily-Rose Depp Followed In Her Mother Vanessa Paradis’s Footsteps
It isn’t just their delicate beauty that mother-daughter duo Lily-Rose Depp and Vanessa Paradis have in common. From career moves to forging lasting relationships with fashion’s biggest players, here are six ways Depp has followed in her mother’s footsteps.
1/6They’ve Both Dated Hollywood’s Leading Men
Both mother and daughter have fallen for the charms of movie stars. Vanessa and former love Johnny Depp (they went their separate ways in 2012) met in Paris in 1998, and Lily-Rose was born the following year, followed by a son, Jack, in 2002. As per Hollywood tradition, Lily-Rose found love with her co-star Timothée Chalamet when they appeared together in The King, but in his latest interview with British Vogue Chalamet confirms that the pair has since ended their romance.

They’re Both Chanel Muses
Both Paradis and her daughter had a close relationship with the late Karl Lagerfeld, and their relationship with the house of Chanel continues. Paradis has been an ambassador since 1991, and Lily-Rose followed suit in September 2015, aged just 16. Both mother and daughter are regular fixtures on the Chanel front row, and rarely spotted on the red carpet in anything other than the label.

They’re Both Campaign Stars
In their roles as Chanel ambassadors, both Depp and Paradis have starred in campaigns for the brand. Paradis became the face of its Coco fragrance aged 18, and was shot by Jean-Paul Goude for the 1991 campaign that would go on to become her first of many. Depp’s first Chanel campaign, promoting the brand’s Pearl eyewear collection, was unveiled in September 2015, and the following year she was named the face of the brand’s new fragrance, Chanel No.5 L’Eau.

They’ve Both Made Catwalk Cameos
Mother and daughter model in front of the camera, but rarely on the runway, although both Paradis and Depp have made cameos on the catwalk. Paradis walked in Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s autumn/winter 1989 show at Paris Fashion Week, wearing a Snoopy coat that the designer created for her. Depp made her own catwalk debut in Chanel’s casino-themed couture show in July 2015, appearing as part of a coterie of celebrities (that also included her mother). It was Depp’s first official appearance for the brand.

She hasn’t followed her into music (yet), but Depp has inherited her mother’s acting chops. Paradis won France’s César award for Most Promising Actress in 1990 for her debut performance in the film Noce Blanche, and went on to star in over 20 more projects. Depp made her cinematic debut in 2014, appearing in the Canadian comedy-horror flick Tusk. She’s gone on to act in Yoga Hosers (in which both of her parents also appear), play the dancer Isadora Duncan in La Danseuse, co-star with Natalie Portman in Planetarium and act opposite Timothée Chalamet in The King.

They’re Both Vogue Cover Girls
Both mother and daughter have graced the cover of British Vogue. Paradis first appeared in print in 1991, and later landed the July cover in 2011. Depp made her Vogue debut in 2016, on the cover of the December issue.
