Over the past week, the rumours of a Spice Girl reunion have resurfaced across the internet to near-universal glee. But what would the audience at such an occasion look like? Here we examine what the archetypal Spice Girls fans should be wearing in spring/summer 2018.

I was Posh Spice and so, in my youth, repeatedly coerced my mother into making me miniature spandex bandage dresses in homage to her style. Accordingly, I feel particularly qualified to comment on what a Victoria Beckham devotee might be wearing this season. Renowned for her all-black ensembles and sexed-up lycra numbers, 2018’s Posh fans ought to be turning towards Prada’s pre-collection for seductive nylon, or The Row for a luxury version of the black strap dresses that she wore so well. Of course, the most ardent advocates will turn to her eponymous brand which, for spring/summer 2018 offered all sorts of saccharine shades – but equally some rather fabulous monochrome looks. Basically, if you’re in the Posh camp, slinky black and super-chic is a good starting point.

It goes without saying that Scary Spice’s wardrobe was defined by animal print – accordingly, Roberto Cavalli (this season or, to be honest, any season) is your first point of call. For those seeking even more glitz, Anthony Vaccarello offered up some fabulous sequined zebra print on the Saint Laurent runway which would work perfectly. But Mel B also has a determined proclivity towards loungewear and Bottega Veneta’s green velvet jumpsuit, embellished with bursts of gemstones, is a particularly good way to channel her outré fabulousness. Wear it with a Saint Laurent cigarette bag and some souped-up footwear (Louis Vuitton, Adidas by Raf Simons or No.21 have particularly good offerings) and appear as her perfectly modern incarnation.

Considering that pastel shades are all the rage for the season ahead, Baby Spice fans are in luck. Anyone looking to channel her sweetness will find plenty of options at Alberta Ferretti (there’s one shimmering pink number that is especially charming), or those seeking a more literal recreation should look to Versace’s revival of Gianni’s designs. Bunton acolytes who have taken a turn for the fashion-forward can find options at Calvin Klein, where babydoll dresses were given subversive, Rosemary’s Baby-style undertones. But anyone who shed their affinity for saccharine shades but still wants to hark back to their younger years should look for cute coloured accessories: Chanel’s minty green plastic handbags; Hermès’ loafers; Mulberry’s frilly shoes. Basically, if you loved Baby Spice, it’s your season to shine.

As with Baby Spice fans, Sporty’s supporters will find modern reworkings of their former wardrobes across the runways: after all, sports luxe is all the rage and shell suits and windbreakers are back in a big way. This season, Koché took football shirts and elevated and embellished them with couture techniques; Fenty had sportswear galore; Louis Vuitton blended elaborate frock coats with satin boxing shorts. Essentially: take your former staples and give them an extreme upgrade to channel the spirit of the season. A quick-fix is belting a bumbag around everything you wear. Prada’s is the clear favourite.

Geri’s dress code: more is more. Or, less is more. Skintight sequins and cleavage aplenty defined her younger years – so anyone channeling her today can take seduction and high glamour as their starting point. Form-fitting and bright red Paco Rabanne; Halpern, Halpern, Halpern. Remember that, in 2018, evening wear is no longer relegated to after-dark: fabrics like satin and velvet have become completely acceptable for daylight hours. Those looking to explore the executive realness she championed as a UN ambassador can look to Tom Ford: sharp-cut blazers worn with very little underneath. Fabulous.
