The Princess Of Wales’s 12 best looks of 2022
From vintage Chanel to The Vampire’s Wife, Kate Middleton’s looks have reflected her growing confidence in 2022. Here, Vogue rounds up Kate Middleton’s best looks from 2022.
Kate Middleton, the Princess Of Wales’s style has undergone a subtle shift this year, in a sign of her growing confidence as she moves to a more senior role in the royal family. Of course, Kate’s signature coat dresses from Catherine Walker and sharp tailoring from Alexander McQueen remain on heavy rotation. Now though, there’s a vintage Chanel blazer thrown into the mix (from 1995, no less, a prime year for archival fashion), or a preloved YSL jacket that she’s owned since her university days at St. Andrews.
Kate Middleton's year of fashion in 2022 was all about sustainability
In fact, 2022 has been the year that Kate has truly embraced vintage fashion for the first time. During a tour of the Caribbean in March, the royal wore three archival pieces in the space of 48 hours, including a striped dress from the ’50s and a ’60s orange beaded handbag by Wayne Taylor, both sourced from Willow Hilson Vintage.
When it comes to outfit repeating, the royal has taken things up a notch. Whereas before, the Princess would space out her rewears, she’s been recycling her wardrobe on a more frequent basis over the past 12 months – a noticeable move that seems to be another nod towards the importance of sustainable fashion. This year has also seen Kate rent a dress for the first time – namely, a bright green gown by Solace London, borrowed from rental platform Hurr, for the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Boston in early December.
While there’s been no shortage of princess dresses this year, Kate has taken a more daring approach to her evening style, ranging from a glittering pink gown from The Vampire’s Wife – a cult fashion favorite – in Belize to an off-the-shoulder monochrome number from Roland Mouret at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
