Deepika Padukone flaunts her baby bump in a series of ensembles, including a sheer dress and pantsuit

Since announcing her pregnancy with husband and actor Ranveer Singh in March 2024, Deepika Padukone has kept a low profile. But that shifted last night. Deepika Padukone swapped her relaxed T-shirts and oversized dresses for high-fashion ensembles in a series of monochromatic portraits on her Instagram.

In a maternity shoot styled by Priyanka Kapadia, the mom-to-be revealed a peek behind the curtain—putting all rumours to rest—in everything from a sheer net dress to a pantsuit in onyx hues.

The first look showcases her baby bump in a cosy cardigan, paired with a bralette and mom jeans. Up next is a sheer black dress with sequin embellishments from couturier Sabyasachi's collection, which features dramatic balloon sleeves with a flowy bottom adding a whimsical touch. The photographs also saw a black blazer and pant set by Louis Vuitton, which is in line with her ambassadorship with the French maison. Other looks include a bodycon sheer top and black skirt set that proudly showcase her bump for the first time in the public eye.

Previously, Padukone has made statement looks including a purple organza sari to a red kurta set inspired by ‘peshwaz’ as seen in Mughal courts—both by Torani for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding celebrations in Mumbai earlier this year.

Padukone isn't the first star to indulge in a maternity shoot, given celebrity maternity fashion has built a following of its own. From Hailey Bieber's lace dress to Rihanna's nude shoot and Sofia Richie's elevated basics—It girls have chosen to embrace pregnancy fashion with their own personal style. Even Sonam Kapoor Ahuja had opted for a relaxed at-home shoot in a black bodysuit to announce her pregnancy. These examples serve as a poignant reminder that women have the autonomy to display their bodies as they see fit.
