Perhaps Shanaya Kapoor is onto something sartorially promising. From Margot Robbie's pink feathered pyjama set during her Barbie promos to Bella Hadid sporting sleepwear at the beach, the idea of pyjamas as daywear has always held appeal in one form or another. No longer confined to the bedroom, the lines are blurred between sleepwear and outerwear with sufficient proof from the street style set.

The star recently took to Instagram to share photos of her languishing on a sofa in a chic pyjama set. While its candy-cane red stripes may not be evident in the images, the delightfully comfy set from homegrown brand NotDefined features an oversized long-sleeve shirt and mid-rise boxer shorts. Kapoor wears the shirt unbuttoned shirt, offering a peek of her lacy bralette.

While this idea of sleepwear as outerwear is nothing new, the departure from dressy, OTT glamour is a welcome change. It brings to mind the iconic scene from 13 Going on 30 following Jenna Rink (played by Jennifer Garner) striding through the doors of a swanky New York City apartment in a purple slip dress and polka-dot trench coat.

Post-pandemic marked comfort as key in fashion. Loungewear took the spotlight on the runways, with Bottega Veneta SS24 featuring opulent satin ensembles and The Row SS24 offering refined minimalist designs. Today, loungewear lines focus on crafting versatile styles that are just as chic on the sofa as they are for grabbing brunch with friends.

Looking to style your PJ sets into chic daywear? The styling possibilities are endless. Begin with a tailored silk or linen set. Pair them with chunky knits and oversized blazers for a cosy fall look, or go the striped co-ord set route like Shanaya Kapoor. Complete your outfit with statement jewellery to pull everything together.
