GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A student from Marion County is one of only six in the state named U.S. presidential scholar.

Esperance Han from North Marion High School was selected to receive the honor out of nearly 6,000 students who qualified. Only 161 high school seniors are recognized each year.

The Presidential Scholars program began in 1964 to honor student’s academic talents. An online recognition ceremony will be held for the winners sometime this summer.
