CLERMONT, Fla. (WCJB) - Last season, when the Lady Bucs fell in the Class 1A state title game to Liberty County. Branford had a loaded lineup and Laila Arnold back in the circle hoping they have another shot at the Bulldogs. Branford’s wish was granted as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead early on and sent the defending champions home, 13-3.

In the first two innings, Branford puts two on the board from back to back RBI singles and then with a runner on, Ashlee Combee records a “inside the park” home run, 4-0 Lady Bucs

The Lady Bucs continued their hitting display with Jesse Frierson firing a three-run shot to left center field to take a 7-0 lead after two innings of work.

The Bulldogs put up three unanswered runs, Branford went back to work with two runs off a error and a fielder’s choice.

The Lady Bucs score five more runs in the fourth inning capped off by Frierson’s unique way of base running between home plate and third base when the attempted throw to third is overthrown and leads to two runs off the error.

Frierson finished the game going 3 for 4, a homer, and a team leading five RBI’s.

Laila Arnold went six strong innings giving up three earned off four hits, a walk and five strikeouts

Branford looks for their first state title in program history on Saturday against rival Trenton. First pitch at 2 pm in Clermont.
