CLERMONT, FLA. (WCJB) - Since 2019, the Trenton softball team has treated the city of Clermont like a second home. Trenton appears at state for the third time in five years. While their freshman pitcher did give up the lead, she rebounded and it led to a walk off single by senior Brandy Dees to pull off the state semifinal victory over Holmes County, 3-2.

In the bottom of the first, Trenton puts one on the board on a bases loaded situation and a hit-by-pitch. Presley Akins scores, 1-0 Trenton

Through three innings of work, Trenton freshman Addison Allaire retired nine straight batters. Until the top of the fourth when Holmes County plates two runs off a double and Trenton is down 2-1.

However, she quickly rebounds, and the (16-14) Blue Devils offense is left frustrated by Allaire who did not give another run for the rest of the game and rang up a total of 17 batters.

In the bottom of the fifth, the (22-2) Lady Tigers tie it up at 2 off junior Olivia Weaver’s game-tying single to left field.

The Lady Tigers head into the seventh inning with hope on their side. Akins starts it off with a lead off single to set up the game winning run. Charleigh Philmon follows it with a sacrifice bunt to advance Akins to second. Allaire takes a walk to first. With two runners in scoring position, Brandy Dees fires a shot to right field and walks it off with Akins scoring the game winner.

Trenton takes on rival Branford in the Class 1A state championship. Saturday at 2 pm in Clermont at Legends Way Ball Fields.
