Florida Education Department releases standardized test results
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Student test scores in all North Central Florida school districts improved this year, however, many districts remain below the state average for math and language arts according to data released by the Florida Department of Education.
Statewide, 55 percent of students scored Level 3 or above on the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Math exams in 2024. In English, 53 percent of students in Florida scored at Level 3 or above.
In North Central Florida, Columbia, Gilchrist, and Union counties scored above the state average in Math. Dixie and Gilchrist counties bested the state average in English.
A little over half of students in Alachua County scored well on the math and language arts assessments, increasing by one and four percent respectively.

Despite improving slightly year-over-year, Marion County Public Schools ranked among the worst in the region with less than half of students scoring at least a Level three on either test.
More than 60 percent of Gilchrist County School District students scored highly on both exams, making it the top-scoring district in the region.
