1 killed in Orangeburg County fatal collision

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person was killed after a Chevrolet SUV struct a tree in Orangeburg County Saturday morning.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person was killed after a Chevrolet SUV struct a tree in Orangeburg County Saturday morning.

The crash happened on Charleston Highway, about five miles north of Bowman at 7:59 a.m. Saturday.

Master Trooper William Bennett said a 1998 Chevy Blazer was traveling west on Charleston Highway when the car ran off the road and struct a tree. The car then came back on the road and ran off the route to the left.

The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and died on the scene from results of their injuries, Bennett said.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
