CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Cape Girardeau Police Department officers responded early Friday morning to the 3400 block of William Street for a report of a suspicious man lying on the ground with what appeared to be a toy firearm.
According to a news release from the department, officers responded around 12:30 a.m. and found Scott Taylor II, 19, of Jackson, lying on the ground with a ski mask on his head and an AK-47 rifle laying on his arm. He appeared unconscious. Officers placed Taylor in handcuffs and secured the firearm. They found the firearm was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and capable of lethal force. Medical personnel provided first aid and took Taylor to a local hospital for treatment of an apparent overdose of an unknown substance.
Officers learned a black Dodge Challenger registered to Taylor has left the area shortly before their arrival. Officers found the car on the 100 Block of Siemers Drive, driven by Jude Jaco, 19, of Jackson.
During the investigation, officers believed Jaco was impaired by alcohol and saw a Glock 23 semi-automatic pistol in the driver’s side floorboard. They seized the firearm and found it was loaded with 11 rounds and capable of lethal force. A further search found multiple rounds of ammunition and several magazines for the AK-47 and the Glock.
Taylor and Jaco were taken into custody and are being held without bond.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office charged Taylor with class B felony robbery in the first degree, felony armed criminal action, class B felony of unlawful use of a weapon, and class A misdemeanor of assault in the fourth degree.
The office charged Jaco with class B felony robbery in the first degree, felony armed criminal action, class B felony of unlawful use of a weapon, and class B misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated.
