NC lawmaker pushing state to invest $10 million in wildlife crossings

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said there are more than 21,000 crashes each year in the state involving animals. Each year, it costs the state between $400,000 and $500,000, the department said. State Rep. Sarah Crawford, D-Wake, is leading the effort for the state to invest in wildlife crossings.
