19-year-old charged with assault after shooting in Wagener

WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 19-year-old has been charged with assault/attempted murder in connection to a shooting this week, Wagener Police Chief Mark Warchol told us on Wednesday.

Officers from Wagener police responded to a shooting incident on Church Street near Haley Stone on Monday, Aug. 12, according to Wagener Police Department.

Officers say police located one of the alleged shooters to attempt to speak with him when the suspect took off running from Main Street near Pickens.

When police were chasing the suspect they saw him throw a firearm into some bushes as he fled, according to authorities.

The subject was apprehended without any further incident, police say.

The firearm was located and the subject was taken to Aiken Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained while jumping a wire fence, according to officials. He was then transported to the Aiken County Detention Center.

No one was injured in the shooting. Deputies from Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and Perry Police Department also helped with the incident.

Wagener Police Department says the incident is still under investigation.

Chief Warchol confirms Napolean Elmore, 19, of Salley, was charged with assault/attempted murder and weapons/pointing and presenting weapons at a person.
