BARNWELL, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - We’ve learned more about a fatal overdose of a 48-year-old man that led to the arrest in Barnwell, authorities told us on Wednesday.

On July 31, deputies say they responded to the 200 block of Carter Circle along with first responders and immediately started doing CPR on a victim who had possibly overdosed around 3:26 a.m.

The victim, Rusty Peeples, 48, of Barnwell, was lying down on the middle of the floor between the kitchen and the living room and missing articles of clothing, according to the report.

Peeples went inside the house the witness told authorities. He was sitting down on the table then got up and started to dance when he went to the floor and told the witness and suspect to not call 911, authorities say.

Authorities say EMS gave Peeples Narcan, and other medications and continued CPR.

Dispatch was notified to call the coroner per EMS and to call the on-call investigator, according to authorities.

Peeples led to the arrest of Amanda Lee Goldsmith, 41, of Blackville.

Goldsmith has also been charged with the distribution of fentanyl stemming from a narcotics investigation according to the agency.
