TOWN OF LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY/Gray News) - An Amish teen was killed and four other people injured after their buggy was destroyed in an alleged hit-and-run crash, according to officials.

State police responded to a call to the location of the crash on State Route 12 in the town of Lowville, New York.

The accident took place shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, officers found the wrecked buggy and a 17-year-old Amish boy dead at the scene.

Troopers said four other people, including a 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy were injured.

Officials said the man and boy were taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The women suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Troopers are withholding all of their names until family members can be notified.

According to police, all five of the victims were ejected from the buggy when it was struck by an SUV driven by 40-year-old Jared Spaulding.

Troopers said Spaulding left the scene and was later found at his home.

Authorities said charges are pending.
