Riley Herbst uses last-corner pass to win Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis

Riley Herbst more than earned his win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday.

After being passed by Aric Almirola coming to the white flag, Herbst got to Almirola's back bumper entering turn three, clearing the veteran driver going into turn four to take the checkered flag.

The win is Herbst's second of his NASCAR Xfinity Series career and locks the Las Vegas native into the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs.

After passing teammate Cole Custer for the lead, Almirola took advantage of the two Stewart-Haas Racing drivers being side-by-side, going to the lead on the front stretch. With the faster car, however, Herbst prevailed for the biggest win of his racing career thus far.

Almirola's runner-up finish marks his fourth top-five in the six races he's run so far in 2024. Custer finished third, with Shane van Gisbergen and Sheldon Creed rounding out the top five. Austin Hill and Daniel Dye finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with AJ Allmendinger, Justin Allgaier and Carson Kvapil rounding out the top 10.

Other notable finishers in Saturday's race include Conor Daly in 14th, Sammy Smith in 18th, Chandler Smith in 33rd and Sam Mayer in 37th.

The Xfinity Series' next race will take place on Aug. 17 at the Michigan International Speedway.
