It is your standard Asian market where the aisles are tiny, the shelves are stuffed with products, some produce don't have the English translation, and you can't figure what the price is for the item because there is just sooo much going on
The prices are definitely cheaper than H-mart. The kimbap is something you need to get! Also if one of the flavours are empty you can ask their employees and they will get you more. They also have their own kimchi which is delish as well!
I would totally recommend you check the supermarket out and support local!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12. März 2024
Always fun to shop here. They have things many other places don't. Their meat especially is great quality. The prices are normally higher and we only buy sale items.
They have cheap kimbaps which are now slightly smaller than they were 2 years ago.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 2. Sep. 2024
Wife and I are a fan. I think we might have found an HMart replacement. Prices are comparable or even cheaper. More selection for certain items. Did I just say that? Kimbap are affordable and yums. Definitely worth while going in. The aisle are tight and small but lots of stuff. They also have an aisle of Filipino snacks and goodies.

Small, Korean grocery store located in the same building as a Japanese convenience store. Good selection of (mostly) Korean snacks.
-1 because it's small, a little dingy, and sometimes the produce isn't the best.
Overall a decent neighborhood spot for Asian groceries.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - FirstUsedBooks B.East Vancouver, Vancouver, Kanada0117. Okt. 2023
Great place for Korean foods, also various seaweeds, also fresh vegetables at prices much lower than nearby supermarkets.

Same great rating for Kim's Mart. This is the place that we seem to have to make that monthly trip for certain items either because they're priced better than the rest or ya just gotta go there. I really like the familiarity of the place, it's narrow aisles and the sound and sensation all make for the perfect experience of a traditional Asian market for me. Like I was transported to Korea for my grocery shopping. Parking has never been an issue when I went . But you know what? What....
So the ultimate reason for traveling all the way into this area to shop, is for the rice. Yes I said it, the rice.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 027. Nov. 2011Vorheriger BeitragJust after coming down from the recently opened Sakuraya Japanese supermarket, we went downstairs for our Korean goodies. My Korean ancestry keeps me coming back to get my corn tea, and chili spices, so we had to come downstairs to get my fix.
I found some new stuff to cook with. Super spicy ramen, Acorn starch, Millet in various forms and black wild rice.
Interstingly being diabetic you can't eat sweet stuff, or sugary stuff. you have to stay away from the common starches and carbs that can turn into bad sugars.
Like white rice. But a diabetic diet without carbs isn't healthy and you need to get some good carbs into your diet somehow. This is in the format of whole grains. Stuff that isn't overly processed like white flours and sugars.
Regular brown rice can be a bit toothsome and husky. I like to eat Japanese or Korean brown rice now and then. I also like the wild rice. Which they have here at Kim's Mart.
Go to the back and they have Korean style cut meats and seafood.
Now, I'm trying to figure a way to make decent tasting Korean food but without all that salt and sugar. It's going to be tough, but I'll find a way to make it work healthy, tasty and diabetic friendly.
Kims is part of my venture into this forray of culinary Korean goodness to a better wholesome foodstyle.
Parking is ample with street parking and in the back. - Mariam T.Vancouver, Kanada1543. Aug. 2022
I liked that they have smaller portioned veggies . I love their Kimchi and their side dishes. They used to have slabs of frozen pre shredded immigration crab which I really loved but now I can only find a thawed out at other Asian stores . This place is a bit cramped but korean grocery lists will be checked off here.

This Korean supermarket is quite convenient for the local people to do grocery shopping. Pricing is reasonable.
There is street parking and a few parking stalls at the back of the supermarket.
The supermarket is not big, so all the aisles and shelves are quite tight in general. Whenever you walk, you would have to wait and let other people walk (for being polite).
They sell different types of veggies, fruits, meat, fish, seafood, soy products, dried food and etc. They even sell some cooked food like marinated Korean veggies, sushi and etc.
I would highly recommend for doing grocery shopping here if you live in the neighbourhood. Fresh food at a cheaper or reasonable price!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 20849364318. Sep. 2016
If you live in the area (Fraser/Main and Broadway), you're lucky to have this in your hood. For us it's a destination shopping experience (ie. we usually have to "plan" the trip).
What's good here? The meat. Whether you're going to do bulgogi, hotpot, BBQ on the barbie, or just pan fry a few things, the selection here is excellent. The only main thing missing for me is sliced lamb meat which another Korean meat shop on Kingsway offers.
I love the bacon on my barbie by cutting them in half size, sprinkle with tiny bit of salt, and just brown both sides. Try not to overcook them as that will harden the meat.
The rib eye sliced beef is perfect for bulgogi. You'll have youtube the recipe for marinating, or you can try the Korean route, which is no marinating at all, and just dip in a simple sauce with soy and sesame afterwards.
In a hurry? They also sell marinated pork/beef. Just throw on the pan at home and in minutes, you have a dish that's as good as the restaurant's.
We buy the occasional vegetables, but tend to stay away from the fruits as we have had a few negative experiences with them. So just note that some items may be cheap, but they're cheap for a reason. Buyers beware.
We also like their selection of grains. You can buy quinoa here for a reasonable price.
And yes, keep an eye open for sale on Shin ramen. Simply the best.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 16. Sep. 2017Aktualisierter Beitrag
Came here for two things only: $2.59 bag of yams and a big bag of brown rice. They have the best deal around for rice; I think it might even be better than Rice World (yes it's actually a thing). I got a 15lb bag of rice for $11.99 and the regular price was $24.99. Score!
I love this store. They rearranged the freezer area which was really appreciated because there's usually more congestion in their previous arrangement of things.
Not the best price on everything but great deals on a lot of stuff.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 01. Apr. 2017Vorheriger BeitragWe wanted to make Korean soft tofu soup and knew this was the place to go because they make tofus in house! Also decided to buy some other things to have around the house and the total damage was so low I am still stunned. Here's what we bought:
- big bag of bean sprouts
- 4 bitter melons
- 2 shimenji mushroom packages
- small container of Korean bean paste for the soup
- pork jowl
- bunch of green onion
- celery
- 2 1kg soft tofu
Total price: $27 and change!!!
Considering how T&T costs more now that Loblaws decided to jack up the prices finally, I always welcome alternatives. It also feels great supporting small local stores.
My only complaint is the cramped aisles. I mean I appreciate them cramming so much goodness into such a small location, but it makes navigating it quite difficult when people push little wheely carts around.19. Nov. 2016Vorheriger Beitragpartner swung by on the way home to pick up a few items for dinner. The mushrooms and homemade tofu were cheap, fresh and delicious. So why 2 stars?
The fried squid was atrocious. The batter was so thick and there wasn't much squid in it. Probably 20% squid and 80% batter. I ended up throwing 3/4 of it out. The stuff I didn't throw out, I ended up removing all the batter and eating the calamari without it. The Korean black bean appetizer (Kongjaban) was undercooked. It was over half raw. I had to reboil it for 3+hrs to soften it because I didn't want to throw it away. Really disappointing because their chap-chae, Korean sushi and regular whole cut squid are all delicious. I'll just avoid those two dishes from now on from here.25. Mai 2016Vorheriger BeitragCame here last night to pick up vegetables for my dog (not even kidding). It was too late to bake her a sweet potato so luckily I snagged a bag of pre-cooked, still warm Korean sweet potatoes. We ate some and the dog ate some. The bag was also dirt cheap at $2.59 (they weigh them and write the price on the brown lunch bag directly)!!!
There's some great deals here and other stuff that isn't such a great deal. That baggy of sweet candy tasting sweet potato was so nostalgic. Grew up in Asia and on weekends, my cousins and I would dig up a hole in a clay field, burn wood with clay lumps and rocks on a pyramid above, throw in sweet potatoes and bucket chicken, collapse it and wait impatiently while it cooks (like Hawaiian imu cooking). It tastes like this. It's the most simple way to taste the delicate sweetness of a sweet potato. Yum!13. Mai 2016Vorheriger BeitragIf there were an option, I'd do 3.5 stars and here's why:
- There isn't an Asian grocer nearby that I'm aware of. The closest place I can think of is Chinatown or T&T at Tinseltown. So for that reason, people are thrilled there's a closer place to get some specialty cuts of meat or some veggies.
- The prices for some stuff is astonishingly cheap! I was shocked that their mini cukes and vine tomatoes were cheaper than Costco! Costco!!! How's that even possible? Their baby bok choy prices were better than T&T. I got 2 dozen local fresh farm eggs for $6.99!!!
- Even though some stuff is super cheap, some other stuff is outrageously expensive even more so than Choice's or butcher shops! I was also tempted to make an oxtail soup because I saw some oxtail but immediately skipped the idea when I saw the price. It was not even 1/3 of the oxtail I get at T&T and it was much more. I usually pay about $2-3/lb at T&T and pay roughly $10-15 for a whole tail. Here, it was $16-18 for a fraction of it. Their kalbi cuts were also really expensive.
- Some of their fresh food was really good. The steamed squid was just steamed so I'm not raving about the cooking. It was nice and the dip was really great. The jap-chae (I am sure I misspelled it...) was good but too peppery for me. The sushi was DELICIOUS. I wish I got 2 more rolls - will definitely be back for those.
For all those reasons, I'm happy it's around. If I'm feeling lazy, I'd come here and save a trip to T&T or Chinatown. It's great to have in a pinch. But this isn't a place that I could make my regular go to as their selection isn't large enough for a one-stop shop.
