DAS Auto Service

Took at chance trying this place out on Yelp reviews alone, since none of my circles are VW TDI owners. What's annoying about TDIs, if you've never owned one, is many mechanics don't work on them because they are a special breed of engine and therefore require specialized training. Speaking with Oscar prior to requesting service it was clear he and his crew are trained to service TDIs. Plus, the name. Had this crew do replacement of both front axle/driveshaft assemlies, and a brake flush. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. There's more work left to rehab my old TDI, and I like what I see in this shop, so I plan to come back.

Omg. Pinch me I'm in a dream...never had such good customer service in my life. Got a response from Oscar via yelp within minutes and the next morning my car was serviced and fixed within 2 hours.

I told him I was trading in my leased car in a few months so he did the absolute minimum work possible to keep the cost low, me safe and car in great condition. No up-selling, he was so clear and friendly and honest.

It was a Monday and they are technically closed but even on his day off he drove me home and picked me back up to get my car when the service was finished. Now my car is good to go and the whole experience made my day.

I've been going to DAS Auto for a spectrum of services, mostly for my oil change but from the past 3 months but 10 year old scion TC was breaking down. First, while I was driving back home on an empty freeway, I noticed my car began to jolt then began slowing down. I pulled over and waited two hrs until the tow truck came. It was a Sunday afternoon, so no auto shop was opened. I messaged Oscar via Yelp and he was able to take my car the next morning. The entire transaction was done seamlessly, I had the tow service bring my car over to DAS auto and both parties confirmed the drop off. I had to change my camshaft sensor, wonderful. They were able to have car ready within a day or so. Then about a month ago, my check engine light came on and had to change my catalytic converter.

The staff is incredibly knowledge and they are very fair. As many can tell from their stellar reviews.

If there were 6 stars available, I'd give them that.

I have a 2007 BMW 335i & my brake fluid light has been going off since July (I know im bad for ignoring it all this time). Anyway, as always I call BMW just to get an idea how much they charge, then I call places who specialize in European cars and not surprised prices are half what BMW quotes. Unfortunately, but fortunately I was unable to bring it to SAN Mateo because of the time construction I was under.

So I yelped a few places in Daly City & stumbled upon this place. Read the reviews especially the recent ones because they are relevant & tried to get a gauge of different work that was done by to different types of cars primarily on BMW's.

Long story short, i called and Quan was able to take me in within the hour AND quoted me 1/3 of what BMW was quoting me. Came in & was greeted by Quan & introduced me to Sal who showed me where I can comfortably wait for my car and gave me the password to the wifi.

Later Oscar, Quan's co-owner, came out introduced himself and talked me through what service I came in for. It was around 1115am right before lunch and as they were ordering food they kindly even offered to buy me something. I politely declined, BUT when their chicken & waffles came, they again offered & I said I just wanted to "take a peek" and am so glad I stopped trying to be modest and took them up on their offer.

The last paragraph may be irrelevant since this is a review for a auto service, but what I'm trying to get at is that these guys are HONEST, reliable, and customer service is in a league of their own.

So for the longest time I've been asking around if anyone had a go to mechanic in the bay area. None of my friends had one so I had to rely on yelp. Called around a couple places and Oscar was truly the nicest one. He also wasn't not going to charge a diagnostic fee, which totally sold me since another place wanted to charge me $125. Made an appointment and came in the next day.

Came in and my car wasn't being serviced for about 10-15 mins I had to wait. I didn't know what was wrong with my brake lights, but it turned out just the bulbs needed to be changed. Got a discount from them for keeping me waiting and I decided to get an oil change there too. Walked out the door paying only $35. I couldn't believe it because labor alone for most places would have costed more I bet. They changed the bulbs, gave me an oil change, and checked my brake pads. I was amazed.

Highly recommend this place. I honestly was a bit worried that I was going to get ripped off just because I don't know much about vehicles and how much things should cost. However, after leaving here, they are super great and definitely are fair. I definitely know who my new go to mechanic is and who I would recommend when asked.

This review is mainly on behalf of my fiancé but I've also recommended my family here and they have no complaints.

Oscar especially is great to work with, honest and friendly-we always know what needs to be done and what we are paying for, no surprises. He'll tell you exactly what the issue is and give you options on the best way to resolve the problem.

The work is done on time every time. Easy drop off and pick up.

I took my Land Rover to DAS a couple of months ago. They replaced my battery and alternator successfully, but when I got my car back, my radio wouldn't turn on and my glove box was broken. Now it just hangs open!

I brought it back for some other problems since they did a great job overall, before. This time my coolant was bubbling over and the traction control light was on. I also talked to them about the glove box. They said they would replace it. They had my car for 3 weeks. When I got it back, they said that they were unable to fix some issues, but the coolant was repaired. He also said he wasn't going to charge me because he really likes me and my partner and wants to spread good karma. When I picked up my car, the coolant bubbled over after two miles.

I have called to discuss this, and to find out when my glove box will be replaced, but after a week, no one has returned my call. Now when I call I get a busy signal.

I took it to another mechanic. He changed a fuse and many problems were fixed within 10 minutes. He said DAS knew about the fuse because it was sitting on the floor. I feel like Oscar wasted my time and money by having my car for so long, yet not fixing it. Meanwhile, I was paying a lot of money for Lyft. I'd prefer that he had told me he couldn't fix it and sent me to someone weeks ago. I feel like not charging me because of "karma" was disingenuous. He should have told me he didn't charge me because he couldn't fix it. After the mechanic spent some time on it yesterday, my radio works, the traction control light is off, and it's driving smoothly.

The first time around, I was very pleased with their work (except for my glove box and radio), but after this last experience, I'm very disappointed. I think these guys work hard and they don't try to pull extra money out of customers. My main problem with them is poor communication.

My XB was making the strangest sound. I found DAS on Yelp and decided from their reviews that they were the ones I was willing to go to.

I was more than pleased rolling out with my fixed XB. I know I got a fair price.

I found my go to mechanic. Oscar (owner) has got to be one of thee most trustworthy mechanics out there. His crew were more than helpful in pointing out what was wrong. They pointed to it. They replaced it. They showed me the broken part. I felt like I was a part of the fix haha.

I actually came back and fixed my brothers car the same day.

I recently bought a 2001 BMW without getting it checked first, and I went into the inspection with a lot of fear. DAS could have overcharged me and I would have accepted the shame of my bad purchase. Instead they inspected the car, found a possible issue, and booked time to look more into it without charging me for the inspection. Already I felt they were honest and great people to work with.

Whats next is even crazier.

I returned there today to inspect the heavy rattling issue from before, and we all expected it would be a suspension issue, but on inspection Joe found it was just the spare tire loose.

Ten minutes later, the rattling noise was gone and I was relieved. They could have charged me for this, but they refused.

I hope Oscar and his shop stay in business for a long time. I live 20 mi away but I'll take my car there for all repair and maintenance needs.

As busy as they always are. It surprises me how they still keep their word. Always satisfying customers and keeping my car in great condition!

The Yelp reviews don't lie here! The hubby was ready to leave for work, tried to start his car and it made this weird churning noise. Crap-ola! Called the dealership and they wouldn't be able to even take a look at it til Thursday, which was almost a week from when he called!
We looked on Yelp, call DAS and Quan said he'd be able to check it out that day! We had the car towed to the shop and they even brought my hubby home!
4 hours later, (super fast!) the car was fixed and they even had someone pick my hubby back up!! That is amazing service!!
Oscar, Quan and the rest of the employees are good peeps. They know what they are doing and really try to help the customer with the cost.
We'll definitely be coming back for any future repairs. Don't waste your time going anywhere else!!
