We spent the day visiting Victoria and met up with a friend for dinner. We wanted fresh seafood on the harbour and were recommended to try red fish blue fish. Little did I know, but this place isn't a restaurant but moreso a shack on the docks. Don't let this deceive you though, they serve up very fresh fish and their flavors deliver.
I ordered a halibut tacone (soft shell taco wrapped as a cone) and Jamaican jerk tacone. For around $10 this was a very filling dinner. Both tacones were equally delicious and I couldn't stop eating.
When I first came here (around 5pm) there was already a 8-10 person line. Luckily they have tents set up to shelter you from the weather (it was a very hot day out). The wait itself was around 15-20min to get to the front and the wait for the food was about 15min. Seating is first come first serve, they have seating along the boardwalk and there's also sheltered seating a little ways down.
Rain or shine, you shouldn't walk past this joint without trying it out! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was awesome. We took the BC transit to get down here but also saw metered parking along the street. I will definitely come back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 104137191Sep 4, 2024
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Redfish Blue Fish, and I must say, it was a memorable experience! I ordered the salmon and the clam chowder, and I can confidently say I've never tasted anything like this before.
Food:
Both dishes were absolutely amazing! The salmon was cooked to perfection--moist, flavorful, and with just the right amount of seasoning. But the real star for me was the clam chowder. The flavors were rich and comforting, unlike any clam chowder I've had in the past. It's rare to find such well-balanced dishes, and these were truly impressive.
Atmosphere:
The place was packed, which is always a good sign. Despite being busy, the vibe was lively and inviting. You can tell it's a popular spot for a reason.
Price:
It's a little on the expensive side, but honestly, it's well worth the price for the quality of food you get. Sometimes, you pay a bit more and walk away feeling like it was an investment in a great meal and that's exactly what thisHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2408983958Aug 24, 2024Updated review
We had to return to RFBF on our visit to Victoria and the food is just as good as I remembered! We got even MORE of their fish and chips this time trying their cod and halibut each in an order of two pieces with chips and it was amazing. The batter is so light and the fish is not overcooked at all. The portions are generous and the fries were crispy and great with some ketchup.
Of course we got the Tacone which had plenty of ahi tuna inside and because their fish is so good, we also got the grilled ahi tuna on salad. We were shocked at how large the portions were and the slightly seared cookery of the tuna was done expertly.
It is located near the harbour and only outdoor seating is available. There is usually a line but the staff there move quick and are so nice!
Overall, a must visit when in Victoria!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 17, 2020Previous reviewMy single favourite meal while on a trip to victoria, this place really does live up to the hype.
We ordered some take out at around 3PM but their was still a small wait which shoes how fresh everything really is!
We got their 2 pc cod with fries which were HUGE pieces, delicious tasting batter and fresh fish. Their fries were also very good and their coleslaw was a perfect compliment. My favourite though, was their tacones!! Wrapped in half a flour tortilla, I loved both the jerk fish which was lightly spicy and their tuna which was seared with a creamy sauce. Both were absolutely delicious and stuffed with fish!
Their clam chowder was also great with hints of coconut and plenty of corn in a creamy yet not too heavy broth.
Overall, food here is AMAZING. Tacones are the best but their fish and chips are A+ as well! - Aug 10, 2024
If you're looking for some of the best fish and chips near the water, this spot is a must-visit. The fish is perfectly fried--crispy on the outside, tender and soft on the inside, with a golden-brown crust not too thick and not too thin. It's paired with thin-cut fries that are just as satisfying. The soup was also a standout, a bit spicy, rich and flavorful, adding to an already amazing meal.
The location is unbeatable, with stunning views of the water next to the seaplane airport that make the wait more bearable, though the line can get pretty long--we waited about 30 minutes. It's a bit on the pricey side, but the quality of the food makes it worth every penny.
One downside: they did charge nearly $2 for an extra side of tartar sauce, which feels a bit steep. Despite that, the overall experience was fantastic, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 24, 2024
My first impression of Red Fish Blue Fish was the long line, but it's also a good sign as the food must be good. Fortunately the line was long but it moved pretty quickly.Â
From seeing other people's food, everything looked so good. When we finally got ours, I can confirm the food does not only look amazing, it tasted great too!
We ordered the Cod Tacos, Halibut fish n chips, Ahi Tuna salad and a chowder bowl. Everything was in big portion and tasted so good, but my favorites were the Halibut fish n chips and the Ahi Tuna salad. The Halibut was so tender and the Ahi Tuna salad tasted so refreshing in contrast to the fried food.
We sat at under the covered deck area and really enjoyed watching boats coming and going while we enjoyed our lunch. Overall, we really loved this little stand and would like to come back whenever we visit Victoria again.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Aug 23, 2024
I will be dreaming about this meal. Hands down the BEST fish & chips I've had in my life... like I cannot express how good it was. The wait was a bit long between standing in line & then waiting for your food to come out. I particularly had to wait extra longer cause someone else accidentally took my order, but it was obviously worth it and I'd do it again. The servers were also super apologetic which was kind. It's located right on the pier so you can eat while looking out on the water, very blissful vibes. I'd come back to Victoria just for this place.

This is a must do lunch/dinner spot in Victoria! It's a very casual spot with no table service.
The line will likely be long but don't let that put you off. Everybody is here for good eats and the line moves pretty quickly. You order and pay in one line and wait for your food in another area.
We had a little bit of everything:
Halibut with fish and chips
Pacific codfish and chips
Fried dill pickles
Albacore Tuna tacone
Salmon tacone
Clam chowder
Everything was superb! Definitely get an assortment of everything. The halibut pieces were bigger than the cod. It was also more flavorful, as in the cod was milder tasting than the halibut.
We'll definitely come back the next time we're in Victoria!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 6084295Jul 28, 2024
I only gave it 3 stars cause the jerk fish poutine was less to be desired. It was clumpy, the flavor was decent but I was not impressed with my first time having poutine! I'll try again at another restaurant. Now my fish and chips was amazing! I enjoyed them in the comfort of my hotel cause it was a little cool & rainy outside and they only have a small space with covered seating and it was full. Service was ok cause they was busy and about to close, but I would defiantly go back for the fish and chips!

Some of the best seafood tacos I've had in my entire life. Eating by the harbor was a serene experience (although I recommend bringing a jacket). I got to sample my party's fish and chips and chowder, which were also phenomenal.

Came here for lunch and since it was raining, wasn't too busy. Got the halibut and it was more food than I was expecting. Fish was nice and quality of the food was great. Fries were also decent and were crispy. Coleslaw isn't really my thing so I tried it and it seemed fine but didn't really enjoy it that much.

Long line, but moves quickly and service is quick and friendly. We both got the salmon sandwich and it was absolutely fabulous. Bun was soft and the fish was perfectly cooked. Loved the sauces on it. Cole slaw that came with it was also crispy and light. Definitely recommend stopping here and grabbing a seat for a view of the water while you enjoy your super fresh fish!
