Q:
I live on the island and can't believe I didn't see this cool-looking spot open! Can't see anything specifically vegan on the menu though. Is it a case of having ingredients removed from dishes to make them sort of vegan?
A:
Hi Maeve - glad you found us! We'd love to have you in. While there aren't many vegan items on our menu, we can absolutely make adjustments to a number of the items to… more

Is there a happy hour menu?
A:
I asked the same question because the website and Yelp contradict one another. The answer I received was " Hi - we open at 5PM on Wednesdays, and 3:30PM on Thursdays through Sunday for Happy Hour."

Dinner!
So, our friends invited us to dinner. They suggested Saltbreaker in Alameda and we met them there on a Friday night. There's plenty of parking out front but you have to ignore the Restricted Parking Signs that say a permit is required. I parked in the area south of the restaurant which was probably parking for the building next door. Whatever.
The place was hopping when we walked in. Staff and customers were all apparently smiling which is always a good sign. We took our seats, ordered drinks and perused the menu. We also looked at the specials board which offered one app, one entree, one dessert and one beverage. There's one photo below that is unlabeled because I can't remember what it was but I'm reasonably sure it was the Special Appetizer of the Day.
Service was great. It was definitely a team effort. Ambiance was appropriate for a place with a full bar and lots of diners. The meal flow was excellent.
Portions were not huge but sufficient for sharing. Pricing was reasonable. Flavors ran from good to excellent. There were no failures. I found the Crispy Potato Gratin to be particularly good. It looks like three simple blocks of potatoes, but the outside was super crispy and the inside, super fluffy. Add a little onion and chive cream to the bite and it's a winner! The Chicken Thighs and Salmon were also well prepared.
This is a great place to have an after-work meal and just chill for a bit.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 15, 2024Updated review
What a treat! We went back to Saltbreaker and enjoyed the burger happy hour deal. For under $20 you get a delicious meal. This is one of the best burgers in Alameda.
Now this place is buried deep on the old Navy base. You don't just happen on it, you have to be destined for it. So use your phone to navigate you there with a few extra minutes to spare. Parking is easy once you arrive.
You will also want to try the Salmon Crudo. Delish!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 13, 2023Previous reviewThis place is a hidden gem. Wow! Alameda Point is really poppin' up, and Saltbreaker helps!
If you are going here, you must try one of their signature cocktails. Maybe Uber over because these drinks are strong. Try the Lolo's Wish. It has Mosswood/Saltbreaker Rum, Benevolence Rum, Citrus, Grapefruit, Cacao Bitters.
You have to try the Steak Frites here. Its has a shallot demi glaze and comes with in-house-made tarragon aioli and fantastic shoestring fries.
We also tried the Ora King Salmon which comes topped by coconut green curry and has some eggplant and cilantro accompanying it.
Parking was easy and safe.
The service was fantastic.

Came here on a Wednesday evening with friends and made a reservation ahead of time just in case.
Staff and Service:
- I'm glad we made the reservation. When we arrived at 6pm for the reservation, the restaurant wasn't crowded, but it did fill up soon after
- Our waitress, Cecilia, was fantastic. She was knowledgeable with her recommendations, brought really good energy to the restaurant and our table, was pleasant to talk to, and was quick to help us when we asked for refills / more sauce
Food and drinks:
- Hatch grilled chicken: grilled chicken sandwich with hatch chiles - this dish was tasty. The chipotle aioli was different than your standard chipotle aioli, but it was still good. You can choose salad or fries as your side.
- Steak and frites: comes with tarragon aioli and is a good portion for one person
Miscellaneous:
- Parking is available via a parking lot outside of the restaurant
- There is a cute bar inside as well with good aesthetics
- Good for large groups (saw a group of ~14 when we were there) and smaller groupsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kevin A.Santa Clara, United States671212Sep 5, 2024

Saltbreaker is my NEW ALL-TIME FAVORITE IN THE BAY AREA. From welcoming us into the beautiful restaurant to the exploding fresh flavors. I loved the chicken thighs and the pesto pasta the best. The princess cake was amazing also. The burrata was delicious as well. And the Caesar salad tasted so fresh. I loved my sugar cane root beer and the Scarlett looked delicious as well!
The service was excellent and the interior design was impeccable. Loved the sultry music as well, that was a nice touch h.
Thank you Saltbreaker for making my first experience simply wonderful.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 26, 2024
We've recently visited Saltbreaker Restaurant and had an amazing experience. The hospitality was top-notch, thanks to the outstanding service provided by the host, Scott. Cannot forget Ceecee, who added a positive touch to the welcoming note and overall stay. They were both incredibly attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the burger, accompanied by the round on the house (THANK YOU, Scott). The burger was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a delight. The fries was something not to forget - crispy and perfectly done. The inside of the restaurant has a cozy seating, cute little bar with wide selection of spirits of your taste. The in-house recipe of Manhattan, preferred by an awesome bartender, gets a shout out as well.
I highly recommend Saltbreaker Restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Five stars all the way!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Aug 11, 2024
I had no idea this gem was here in Alameda. The space is cute and to me a bit unexpected. We sat at the bar and the bartender was nice and informative. We got the focaccia, cheddar gougeres, steak frites, and the broccolini. The steak was cooked just right to medium rare, and I really liked the broccolini. It seemed that there were a lot of regulars, which to me was a good sign. The peanut butter old fashioned was yummy.

My cousin and I visited prior to NYE... it was raining and it was a nice mellow vibe coming into the restaurant. We managed to catch the last few minutes of HH so of course, we made it count. Due to time (my bad) I forgot what we ordered but will share the photos in here for reference. I did remember ordering Lolo's Wish (we asked the owner if its Filipino and he said no it's about his daughter so we explained what it was in our culture). The drink itself was super strong... definitely well worth trying it out.
Our server found out that we were celebrating my cousin's birthday so she gave us complimentary champagne on the house. That was a nice touch!
We ordered the burrata (it was good, but I wished it came with more bread), Ora King Salmon for me (it was light and good, perfect size) and my cousin had the fresh made pasta with chicken (she said it was a lot of portion for her but she liked it, ended up taking it home!)
It's a nice addition to the restaurants around the island. I would recommend making a reservation due to the size of the restaurant and the buzz around it.
Will definitely visit again...Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2 - Sydney C.Seattle, United States07Sep 13, 2024
It can be hard to get a table at Saltbreaker, but if you can manage it, would definitely recommend! Their cocktails are all spicy(as in spices, not heat) and delicious, and their small bites are similarly delicious! Burratta, liver dip, focaccia, salads, fries all amazing! Great ambiance, and a great addition to the Alameda point!

Came here with a friend to celebrate my bday and was pleasantly surprised by this quaint hidden gem.
First off, they greeted me with a complimentary birthday glass of Prosecco which was so unexpected and a nice first impression. It's not a celebration without something bubbly right?
We shared the trout appetizer, which reminded me of tuna & crackers but elevated and nicer obviously. It was so tasty!
I had the steak frites for my main. Everything was prepared perfectly and was so delicious. The cocktail list was cute and had quirky names. I really enjoyed the one I got, though I can't remember the name anymore.
To round out the meal, we shared the dessert which was chocolatey and satisfying. Overall, a really pleasant experience from start to finish and I am looking forward to my return!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
