What is H Mart?  Too lazy to Google it

  2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H_…

Korean market chain.  Id expect it to be something in between a Smile Market and Korean Plaza.

  3. One is going in up on Mack Road that I will check out when it opens in June.

  4. Interested in checking it out when they open locally. Thanks for sharing. Though I don't feel the name flows. If only they could have used, "Kay-Mart" or something because "Kmart" is obviously taken.

  5. I cannot wait! Gimme all the Korean meats, dumplings, and instant noodles.

  6. Love ranch 99, but I can't wait for H mart to open

Giselle, here in the Silicon Valley/South Bay, there was a Korean supermarket called "K Market". It was full service with bakery, sushi, Korean meals, soups, side dishes, etc for quick pick ups and produce, meats, etc.... I kept calling it Kmart every time.... After a few years, it was bought out and renamed Mega Mart, which I think is also in the Korean market chain, like H mart.

I think this area has 2 Hmarts and a few Mega marts. But don't quote me :)

Where in your area is it going to be?

  7. Open... open... open.... can't wait

  8. Chefs daughter, that's interesting. Never heard of those stores. I had to look up Mega Mart. One in Fremont, another in Sunnyvale. Looks like the Mega Mart in Svale, across the street from Wolfe Safeway, took up residence in what I think was a Toys 'R Us store... Fascinating. I may hit it up next time I'm back in the hood. Thanks for sharing.

    Always welcome. :)
You are correct in the locations of mega mart. The Fremont one is the newest one and I have yet to walk through the doors. However, the mega mart in Sunnyvale used to be the K market, also a Korean grocery store but before it was the K market, it used to be a Best Buy's not a Toys "R" Us, the Toys "R" Us in Sunnyvale used to be on El Camino in Sunnyvale Saratoga Road which also has a Safeway in the Center

So in this area, I believe H Mart and the mega mart are the bigger Korean themed grocery stores. There are smaller ones like galleria market in Santa Clara and Hankook on the border of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. There may be one or two I might be missing.

    So did H mart open?
I want to mega mart in Sunnyvale to buy items for soft tofu stew (soon du bu jjiage) with mushrooms. Buying most items for the first time, it adds up. I think my total was $55... but in a restaurant that's about 4 stone pots. I made the most tasty and filled bowls. This recipe is now my go to when I crave that soup-stew (stoup)

Hi Jenny :) oh it sure is my craving when I want hot soup. When I go to Korean restaurant and it's on the menu it's a must for me so I'm so glad. I made it from scratch in my ipot. Then ladle it into the Korean stone pot bowls to keep it scorching (temperature) hot. Oh boy, I think I'll make for a weekday dinner tjis week after I buy more tubes of soft Korean tofu.
