This is a pretty silly question, but I know there isn't a JoAnn Craft Store in SF, so where do I go to buy thread for my sewing machine?

There's Beverly's crafts down in daly city by the tjs if you're looking for a big craft store....

otherwise, you could try Mendel's on Haight or that other big fabric store chain... I know there's one on haight, another on 4th btwn brannan and bryant, another on mission.

There are some discount fabric stores on Mission that has thread. One next to Thrift Town, and another right by 24th St. BART station. There's also Britex by Union Square. On Clement St. there's Fabrix.

Thanks for the tips everyone :) I was hoping to not have to go to far from downtown (I live in Nob Hill), but it looks like a trip will need to be made to the Haight. I've heard good things about Britex, but also they EVERYthing they sell is overpriced.

Yeah, the only Joann's is in Colma, by the Home Depot.

I'd hit up Discount Fabrics on Haight.

I did a search for 'fabric' in Nob Hill neighborhood and came up with these:
